RSGB CENTENARY CALLSIGN TOUR 2
Begin forwarded message: From: "keithlbird@..." <keithlbird@...> Subject: RSGB CENTENARY CALLSIGN TOUR Date: 31 October 2012 10:10:20 GMT Dear club colleague, it appears no club in Kent has responded to the attached letter sent to all affiliated clubs in September, regarding the plans for an RSGB Centenary callsign tour of the UK. However, the county has been allocated the 11th and 12th of August 2013 (Sun/Mon) to air the callsign, and I am following up to see which clubs may have missed the initial call for volunteers to operate the SES from Kent. Meanwhile, if any club would like to be involved with the planning and operating on the above days please let me know asap. 73 Keith - G4JED Region 12 DRM - Kent

Amateur Radio Observation Service (AROS)
Begin forwarded message: From: "keithlbird@..." <keithlbird@...> Subject: Amateur Radio Observation Service (AROS) Date: 15 October 2012 20:56:38 GMT+01:00 Dear club colleague, the AROS service is looking to expand its number of observers around Kent to assist in dealing with increased reports of reported infringements, but first, observers need to already be RSGB members and not all applicants will be automatically accepted. The service is confidential and it is very important that the identities of any interested parties must remain totally anonymous and not to announce any decision to become an Observer to other Amateurs. Contact for AROS members is ordinarily only with the coordinator or the deputy. Would you please bring this to the attention of your club members, and if any feel able to do this role and want more details then please ask them to contact the AROS coordinator directly at; aros@... Further information about the service can be found on the RSGB website at; http://www.rsgb.org/committees/honoraryofficers/aros.php 73 Keith - G4JED RSGB Region 12 DRM - Kent

IMPORTANT FOR ALL Hi everyone – I’m starting to feel as if the preparations are nearly complete…….perhaps I shouldn’t tempt fate! The two bigger rigs, Nibsy and Solent Challenger, are in Dagenham as I write this, ready to be loaded for the 10pm sailing, and no doubt Bill (Nibsy) will text Charles and Doreen (hot lips) Lewry later to put the first update on the web site………You have now been reminded to send your daily updates!! ………….as far as I can tell, the journey for Dave to bring the new rig and trailer up from Bristol went smoothly, and he’s now swapped vehicles and handed the reins for the bigger horse power, to Ziggy and Chris for the rest of the journey – good luck to them.,…………should be there on Sat/Sunday. The remaining convoy:- · Truck papers – please make sure to bring V5 Log Book or copy, VE103 permission to hire, MOT if there is one……. · Friday 10am please as usual, at the Services on the M20 Junction 8, for departure just as soon as Ian and the Maidstone team have got the radios fitted in Mummies and the Posties (Thanks Ian). Please don’t arrive much before 10am, as the 2 hour parking clock starts as soon as you arrive……..and getting exemption, whilst possible, never seems easy. · Reminders – tacho discs (correct calibration) or digi cards – SPARE WHEEL – (my tyre guys recommend 90 on front and back tyres) – SPARE TRUCK KEYS in case of loss, mattresses for outward AND return journey so we don’t all have to stop at a hotel just because one person doesn’t have a mattress – Driving licenses, snack food for outward and return journeys – cab kettle – cab travel mugs – plates and cutlery – food additions to fry-up (we will bring bacon, eggs, mushrooms, toms and cooking stuff – Can someone else bring bread, and milk, beans…..cake? (Mummies perhaps?) · Full tanks of diesel please on arrival at the Services, so that we can get away quickly – We use Asda near Bluewater on the way down as it’s cheapest. Full crew:- · Reminders – work gloves, penknives for opening boxes (not in hand-luggage!!) , mobile phones, credit and debit cards, cash……..enough euros for meals AND the Hotel which usually doesn’t have a working card machine, (prices will be 30Euro single, 40Euro Double single occupancy, 50Euro double and two person occupancy, and 60Euro Twin bedded room) passports AND PLEASE a photocopy of it kept in a different bag just in case the passport gets lost/stolen, EHIC cards (was E111), pocket cameras (belt bags), (Large cameras will get in your way), ………a fuller list is on the new member web pages, not to mention ‘old faithful’ the Handbook! · Don’t forget to remind family and friends to follow our daily progress, and please will EVERYONE send reports back to ‘Hot Lips’ so it’s a more interesting read. ….two more days to go………call if you have last minute questions. MARTS G6NU Meeting 15
John - G6IVP asked me to advise everyone at MYARS of the following: Dear MYARS Friends, It occurred to me that there may be some members, within your club, who knew William (Bill) Nutton G6NU "Naughty Uncle" who was a founder member of the MARTS. As well as founding the MARTS, I believe that Bill played a part in the formation of an amateur radio club in Maidstone. Whether or not this became MYARS I do not know but some members may be interested. I would therefore like to invite anyone from your club to the following meeting of the MARTS on Friday 19 October 2012 at the MARTS QTH (Tunbury Hall) open at 19:30 hrs local time. Please note this open invitation to members and friends old and new. On the evening of Friday 19th October 2012 the MARTS will be privileged to welcome Bill Nutton's granddaughter, Ms Elaine Nutton, who has asked to meet the Club members and has offered to talk, informally, of her Grandfather. As you may know, from the beginnings of the MARTS, throughout until his death 30 years ago early in 1982, Bill was active in Amateur Radio and served as a long time President of the MARTS. It seems appropriate that, in its 90th year, the MARTS will have this opportunity for some of us to reminisce and others to learn about G6NU's life and to share, with Elaine, what we know of his part in the Club's history. 73 - John Burton G6IVP - MARTS Chairman

Posting Problems
Hi I am getting emails from friends on Facebook of the form @yahoo.com. The emails are not from my friends but are some kind of scam, I just delete them. This might have been due to a large number of Facebook details falling into the hands of hackers, the same hackers may have compromised Yahoo as well. These kinds of things were almost unheard of 20 years ago, you just don't know what might happen these days. Graham

MKARS AT BLETCHLEY PARK
Begin forwarded message: From: "keithlbird@..." <keithlbird@...> Subject: MKARS AT BLETCHLEY PARK Date: 11 September 2012 16:00:42 GMT+01:00 Dear all, some of you might have heard about the Milton Keynes ARS being asked to vacate their club meeting venue at Bletchley Park, and that reportedly this came about owing to arrangements with the RSGB and the NRC. I have today received a communication from our RSGB General Manager, who reports that this move was part of a strategic review by the Bletchley Park Trust, the result of which MKARS and other societies that use BP facilities have been asked to relocate, and that this decision was not connected to the RSGB or NRC operation, which continues with the support of many MKARS club members. The GM states that the advent of the NRC had no bearing on the MKARS being asked to move, or of any dispute regarding callsigns. He confirms that the NRC uses the special call GB3RS while GB2BP is registered through Ofcom to the MKARS. It would appear much of this conjecture arose this past Sunday on 40m, but the operator of GB2BP at the time did stress it was a matter outside of the RSGB. I trust that the above clarifies the position, and whilst an upheaval for the Milton Keynes club, is something all clubs have to manage from time to time.
