google g3trf or maidstone radio club or go on the rsgb club finder or dx zone or southern radio clubs and they all have G3TRF as the list address, qrz.com is set as G3TRF as prime call sign. The facebook page is registered as G3TRF, The IO group is registered as G3TRF.

Why re-invent the wheel.聽

Speaking to others seems a breakdown in communication, which is bad for a club based on communication, what profiles and groups we actually have.

May well have done but bears no relation to the Modern Maidstone club as it's a re-issue of the 1937 callsign given to us around the year 2000. The club as is now comes from the 1960's G3TRF call sign and the slightly later G3YSC call sign, until 2000 or so the 3rd call sign was G8TRF, which was exchanged for G3WM.

G3WM or Correctly 3WM relates to the Original incarnation of Maidstone Club from Tonbridge Rd and later the Elms school, which was reformed with some original members in the 1960's at the Church Institute which later became the YMCA.聽

My hypothesis is in the old days it meant Wireless Maidstone. Like the London Wireless Club, which later became RSGB.

We already own www.g3trf.co.uk which is the registered address of the club, which then dns redirects to the hosting g3trf.weebly.com. g3trf has emails, they are just switched off as we've never used them.

We've been here before, and just gone round in circles, caused a major rift in the club last time.

No one outsite Maidstone club knows the club as anything but G3TRF, the RSGB data base lists us a G3TRF, all the various internet lists of Clubs know us as G3TRF.

DNS domains for Maidstone ARS

Greetings to fellow club members.

Recently I had one discussion at Lashings, and then another at the Faversham shack, and the interim result of that is that I have registered the following DNS domains:

* g3wm.org.uk
* g3wm.uk
* g3trf.org.uk
* g3trf.uk

The proposed end goal of this is to improve the perception of the club's Internet face, specifically, to have the web-site sitting at an address that looks logical to people in the UK and abroad (likely one of the domains above, as far as it makes sense to me), and also to have proper club function e-mails (chairman@, treasurer@, secretary@, info@ in particular).

The latter will allow to set up a PayPal account for the treasurer, such that yearly subscription fees can be made as PayPal payments (with a recurring yearly option should the member want it). In this case it is important to have a set of proper looking e-mails such that the members and prospects see that their payment is going to the club account. Also this will provide means to reduce cash handling.

Initially in my mind I had g3wm.uk as the best choice (if you have a more attractive callsign, why not make it work for you), but Ian defends the choice of G3TRF as the callsign currently registered at RSGB. This needs to be considered carefully.

Whatever is the final choice of the club, it needs to be made and accepted, and it needs to be one main domain to stick with for coming years. Then I will be happy to transfer the domain of choice from my personal account to a club official and/or to setup the e-mails (this can be completely done in one day, if somebody else is willing to do this, that's fine with me). The rest of domains can lapse.

Feedback is welcome, but I sincerely hope this will not incur a year-long debate.

Dear club colleagues, a few items to share聽that I hope will be of interest to you and your club members, and I would appreciate it if you would pass this onto them.

GB8KW - Celebrating KW Electronics
A special event station to be run聽on the weekend聽6th/7th January 2018 from the 1st Royal Eltham Scouts HQ, Rear of 61 - 71 Southend Crescent, Eltham, London SE9 2SD.

Once again, there will be an activity weekend to celebrate the founding of the British amateur radio manufacturer KW Electronics.聽 Founded in 1946, KW produced a wide range of amateur related equipment from its premises in Dartford, Kent.

A surprising amount of this equipment has not only survived but is still in regular use and each January owners meet up on the air to exchange greetings and ideas.

GB8KW, hosted by Cray Valley Radio Society,聽will be on the air on both days using vintage equipment.聽 Members and visitors are welcome between聽9am until 4pm on both days. Location details are at聽www.cvrs.org

Frequencies will be on or around 3.777KHz聽 7.177KHz and 14.177KHz.

GB2KW, hosted by Chris GM3WOJ, will be active from 1 - 28 January 2018, with most activity between the above dates聽from near Inverness, also using a variety of different vintage equipment.聽 Activity will be on 160, 80, 40 and 20 metres.

Rally dates
The usual rallies held in Kent are scheduled again for 2018, and I expect the RSGB table will be present to deal with queries, sell books and sign-up members for聽the RSGB.

The Rainham rally is on Sunday the 25th of February, again at The Victory Academy, Magpie Hall Rd, Chatham, ME4 5JB. Doors open at 10am until 2pm, entry 拢2.50. Full details and trader booking form is at https://goo.gl/bshdp9

General/Local club contest categories
If your club members are likely to participate in the 80m CC, the Autumn series, UKAC or AFS contests, you might want to check whether your club is registered for the General or Local scoring categories.

The rules for the above allow participating members within an 80km of a designated virtual meeting place, to register in the Local category, the default alternative being the General category.聽A current listing of affiliated clubs and their聽respective contest categories can be found at http://www.rsgbcc.org/cgi-bin/afs.pl

Increase in QRM
Some聽have noticed an increase in QRM recently, potentially from a proliferation of Christmas lights and other seasonal equipment.

As most will know, the investigation of such issues falls to Ofcom, and while not wanting to raise expectations about their interest over such matters,聽you can report issues for investigation through their website at https://ofcomforms.secure.force.com/formentry/SitesFormDomesticInterference

Note that if Ofcom accept to investigate the reported interference their could be a charge.

UKAC and rule changes
The first 2018 144MHz UKAC session starts at 2000 local time (2000 UTC) this Tuesday January 2nd, full rules can be found at https://goo.gl/eT61Dd
