Dear club colleagues, some items that I trust will be of interest for you and your members.
?
HF SSB FIELD DAY.
This weekend the 7th/8th Sept?is the HF SSB field day, which will be running at the same time as the 144Mhz Trophy contest. Some of the clubs in Kent plan to take part in these contests over?the coming weekend, lets hope we have good weather and positions in the results table.
?
Rules for both of these contests can be found on the RSGB website; ? and? =
?
?
REGIONAL BOUNDARIES.
In the latest RadCom you will have noted?changes of RSGB region for clubs in South London and Surrey, which are now in Region 10 - South and South East. Their are no changes to the RSGB regional boundaries for clubs with Kent postcodes, which remain in Region 12.
?
TRAINING MATTERS.
This time I can report that the?Hilderstone club recently held an exam session?for four of its members,?two of whom sat the Intermediate and the other two the Advanced, all the candidates passed. Congratulations to all involved. Since beginning training last September, Hilderstone have achieved 100% success with eight candidates passing the Foundation, four the Intermediate and four at the Advanced level.
?
More relevant perhaps for our clubs on the London border, Cray Valley are running an Advanced course beginning in January, with a two session maths primer later this month. They are also running a Foundation course on the 16th and 30th November. Details of all their courses can be obtained from Chris@...
?
West Kent ARS are also running a Foundation course on the 21st September and the 5th of October. Details from training@...
?
?
RSGB CENTENARY.
I'm pleased to report that the G100RSGB Centenary station hosted by Darenth Valley and Hilderstone clubs, were well supported by their members and friends, and had a very credible presence on the bands with voice and CW operations.
?
Hosting the station took a lot of planning and preparation as well as oversight on the day to ensure that the operation worked as planned. Running such events, like with any special event station?is a challenge and provides experiences, which I'm sure members of both clubs will be have learned from for their future events.
?
Thank you to the members of Darenth Valley and Hilderstone for ably representing amateurs and club members of Kent in this national event.
?
The G100RSGB leader board has five members of the West Kent ARS shown?in the rankings, how is your club doing?
?
As a reminder, the RSGB are encouraging clubs and individuals to enter the?Centenary construction challenge, the cut-off for registering is the end of September. Further details can be found on the RSGB website at;
?
?
RAYNET.
We have active RAYNET groups covering Kent who are individual members of the Kent Resilience Forum. Throughout the year the groups assist Kent County Council with exercises, and also?support local fund raising charity events. The demand for RAYNET assistance continues to grow, and it needs additional volunteer radio amateurs to maintain its work.
?
If you or someone you know might be able to help, contact details of your local group can be obtained from ??or ? Alternatively email countycontroller@...

?
I enclose an updated organisational chart following the recent changes at HQ.? The reduced headcount means that there will be a need for greater flexibility and cross cover between staff, particularly to cover holiday and other absences.
?
Please note that the previous facility for responding to “amateur radio” enquiries by telephone or email remains, and all the HQ telephone extensions and email addresses remain active.? Calls and emails will be answered by Giles or myself in the first instance.

Best Wishes?

It is sad news indeed. I met Shelia at least a couple of times and I am sure she was at Roy's leaving do at the YMCA some years ago.

I got to know Roy Holgate quite well when I was chairman of the radio club and Roy was General Secretary of the Maidstone YMCA

?
Dear Colleague,
?
The staffing structure at HQ has been changed to take into account the reduced need for staff in the Finance and Commercial Departments as a result of forthcoming improvements to the IT system, and the need to contain overall management costs.
?
Consultation with staff affected by the changes has now concluded and, whilst some of the reductions have been achieved by staff turnover, it is with regret that Carlos Eavis has been selected for redundancy and leaves the Society’s employment today.
?
Carlos has worked for the Society for 12 years and we wish him well for the future.?
?
A revised organisation chart will follow in due course but, in the meantime, please continue to direct enquiries and email to the Amateur Radio department at HQ as normal.??

Dear Colleague,
?
Please find below the text which will appear in next week’s RadCom under “RSGB Matters”
?
?
“The Board have decided that a complete review needs to be made of the RSGB national regional organisation.? The thinking behind the creation of the Leadership Team in 2012 was that communication between the many specialist volunteers and the membership needs to improved so that members realise greater value from their membership.
?
The Board has asked the President, Bob Whelan, to lead a Presidents Advisory Group (PAG) to undertake the review.? Apart from the President, the PAG will comprise the Company Secretary, Rupert Thorogood, and Board member Phillip Brooks.
?
The Terms of Reference for the PAG are :
?
- to review the existing national regional structure of the Society
- to formulate ideas for supporting members both nationwide and locally
- to provide a provisional report to the Board by November
?
The PAG intends to conduct the review by seeking advice and comments from as wide a group of the membership as possible. In addition it will be examining the way similar organisations to the RSGB structure their regional aspects.? In particular the PAG will seek views on:
?
- the types of regional support services appropriate to the RSGB membership including new entrants as well as existing members
- the way these might be delivered
- the role of RSGB committee members in the case of specialist support
- how the regional services might be measured to establish their effectiveness
- how web services should be part of any recommendations.
?
The PAG welcomes your input to this review. Please send e mail comments to PAG@.... The members of the PAG will be running workshops at the Leadership Team meeting in September and will be attending both the Hamfest at Newark and the Convention to seek out your views and ideas”.

Dear club colleagues, a few items that I trust will be of interest for you and your members.
?
RSGB CENTENARY
Next Sunday and Monday Kent hosts the G100RSGB station, on Sunday the 11th from Darenth Valley between 10am and 6pm, then on Monday the 12th with the Hilderstone club near Ramsgate. Hopefully band conditions will be good and they will have a credible number of contacts. If you want to visit or help work from either station contact the club directly, or let me know and I will provide you with the contact details.
?
EK CARRIER NEWSLETTER
Attached is the 2nd edition of the 'EK Carrier' produced for amateurs in the East of the county, but that?I believe will have a wider appeal. Thanks to Erwin G4LQI?for the work put into producing this newsletter, sending me a copy?and for allowing me to send this around to other clubs.
?
?
ADVANCED EXAM SUCCESS
I'm pleased to report that the Bredhurst club had a 100% pass with their seven candidates in the July Advanced exam. Congratulations to all those involved with the training and the candidates for putting in the effort to study. It's great to once again see that a number of clubs in the county offer Advanced level training, and I hope we continue to see candidates progress in their knowledge and experience through the clubs.
?
?
RSGB MEMBERSHIP
Many of you will have seen in last months RadCom a list covering several pages of new RSGB members. This was the initial take-up of the recent RSGB membership offer that attracted around 1,400 new members to the Society, which is a pleasing outcome from the Centenary celebration offer.
?
I know a number of amateurs?in Kent took up the offer, the key thing is now to retain as many of these new members next year when the renewal becomes due.?Please remember that you may pay your membership annually, quarterly or monthly if it is easier for you in spreading the cost, a call to the RSGB on 01234 832700 will sort this for you.
?
We have many?long term RSGB members in Kent who over the years have continued to support the RSGB work through their membership, and I hope we encourage our newly licensed ones to join up and play a part in maintaining and developing this hobby through the RSGB, among all the changes we see around in technology and regulations.
?
?
SPECIAL EVENT STATIONS
The Kent Weald radio club will be operating GB1HA from the Headcorn airfield, on the weekend of the 17th/18th August, marking the Headcorn Airfield Military show.
?
The is then operating GB2KAA (Kent Air Ambulance) from the 22nd of August to the 4th of September, from their marquee at the Headcorn airfield TN27 9HX. Details from their website;

Re: Claimed Score for 2m VHF Field Day

Well done Ian for doing at least 98 % of both calling CQ an getting the points. With some logging practice, maybe I can. be more useful in the future re contests. This recent event just goes to show that I gave never been involved in a contest special events program before now. Despite this, it was a very enjoyable weekend. Might I take this opportunity to request that we take part in some non competitive special events and maybe include HF please. There are numerous multi band HF and above field events throughout the year, especially during the summer time, as well as the more demanding events for somewhat more adventureous brave enough during the winter months, lol.

Well done Ian. I spoke to Trevor, last night and he told me about the 1280, odd, Kms contact in France. Looked up the Col des Palomières and found -after much searching- nthat it is in the region of Lourdes, South west France. Wonderful.
I asked him when the 'club' would be 'doing ' some field day/ logging practice.
It is years since I've done it. Unfortunately, as you know, I zoom off somewhere, always, it seems, at the crucial moment.
However, 'well done' and let's try to make it a better one next year.
