Important news!!
?
Several members have asked if we can participate in the WAB Olympic Torch special event station on Thursday 19th July. I have checked with Leslee and the hut is free that day, so I have booked it for us. Ideally, at least 6 members would be reqd to provide full cover, but we could possibly manage with 4 at a push. However, the more the merrier! I will complete the on-line form for one-day (free) membership of WAB, so any members who would like to help on the day please let me know! It is our chance as a club to hold a special event station in our own QTH – don’t miss this opportunity folks!!

Hi All,
??????????? firstly many thanks to all who came along on Monday to help with the Ant Mods.? The session was not completed (partly due to a passing thunderstorm that stopped play for a couple of hours).? This means that we need another session to complete the work.? Watch this space.

I have read the press release about the new Foundation Equivalent Exam offered by the ATC.

This has some interesting implications on the existing structure of the Foundation Exam as i see it.

I have not compared the Sylibus and i have no knowlege of their examintion requirements, but i should be expecting the following from the RSGB;

1.? It should not be necessary to provide 3 full licensed persons as invigulators for future Foundation Exams.
2.? The same offer of 1 years free membership should be extended to all new license holders.

These are my own personal feelings but if there is enough interest among our membership, i will pass them on to the DRM as an official observation (and request) from MYARS.

RSGB General Manager

In November last year we informed our membership of the financial and organisational challenges that faced the RSGB and presented our vision for the future of the Society. Your Board has been working on developing that strategy and is in the process of building financial, operational and governance models in preparation for consultation with staff, volunteers and members.

One clear conclusion from our work is that we will need strong, dedicated leadership for the operational activities of the Society and I am pleased to announce that Graham Coomber, G0NBI has been appointed as General Manager of the Radio Society of Great Britain. Graham’s role will be to work with the Board to develop and implement the strategic vision and the changes needed to create a financially sound, membership responsive, Society.

Graham, who holds an MBA from the London Business School, joins us from a successful career at senior levels in Healthcare Management, including as CEO of several Health Authorities, and in consultancy assignments in South Africa. He brings experience of senior general management roles, strategic planning and transformational change.

Graham is an active radio amateur, with interests in both the DX and contesting arenas. He has also worked for RAIBC and has an interest in WAB. He also holds the call SV0XBA.

?Graham Coomber, G0NBI

Commenting on his appointment Graham said “I am particularly pleased to be joining the Society at a time of significant change. My career has included periods of transformational change and it is at times like this that a real contribution to shaping the future can be made. I look forward to working with the staff and volunteers to confirm the RSGB as a leading light both nationally and globally in the world of Amateur Radio”.

Graham takes up his appointment immediately and will initially be undergoing a short period of induction. He will work with the previous Acting General Manager, Don Beattie, G3BJ, to ensure a progressive and smooth hand over of responsibilities.

I should like to put on record the Society’s enormous gratitude to Don, G3BJ for ‘holding the reins’ for the past 14 months.

Dave Wilson, President.
