Hello fellow radio ops,

?

After a week of appalling weather and sea conditions, there has been a change for the better, with only 2mtr swell and lighter winds the deck furniture has been untied and our operating table has been released and redeployed. We are currently about 170NM north-east of Madeira on a heading of 204Degs. with a speed of18knts

?

?This meant that this afternoon (11/1) we were able to get back on the air. ?To our very pleasant surprise we found that 17m was in very good shape. Our first tentative calls in CW brought an immediate response from SM6CUK and LY1ZU. I was later called by Colin G0UJK and QSY'd to SSB on 18.132 Mhz with solid copy both ways. At the end of the QSO with Colin at about 17.30 I was called by Larry VO1FOG in Newfoundland ?again cracking signals both ways.

?

It looks very much as if we are back on the air. Tomorrow we are in port at Funchal (CT3) ?arriving at 8am, we intend to get on the radio during the afternoon. ?We should be on the wireless by about 1500GMT look for us on 17m 18.085 +/- or 18.130 +/-. We will be leaving Funchal at about 17.30 Hrs to cross the the Atlantic with six sea days before reaching Barbados on Sunday 19th January.. As we move away from the 'shadow' of Madeira's landmass the paths to US and Canada also Northern Europe should improve.

?

On seas days we should be found on 24.960 or 24.906 earlier in the day.

?

Once we have a better idea of propagation we will post possible sked frequencies and times.

?

Catch you on the wireless.
