[Re: [ Advice on CW and the 817???]]
Michael Goins
Sorry, Anthony.
Typing too fast - trying to get out the door for work. I meant BENCHER. They come with a black base (less expensive) and a chrome base (a little more). I have a single paddle one I really like. Email me and let's talk. Need to know more about what you will be using it for - home, portable, etc. and what sort of money you want to spend, new/used. etc. mike wb5yjx Michael Goins <mgoins@...> wrote: Anthony, Depends a bunch on where you will be using it. From home, mobile, portable - that sort fo thing. I have 30 plus keys, straight and paddles, and the Bebcher is one of the besdt relatively inexpensive ones. Shurr's are great, but more. I have a $500 Long Island mercury I use daily. Tell em more about what you want from a key. mike wb5yjx by the way - I have had a ticket 25 years and absolutely love my FT-817. Seeing I have got this little gem of a radio and wanting to make use of many of the features, I am considerating on that mode, "CW". To take in consideration that I know nothing about morse code "only enough to pass my exam" and I have read a couple of posts that the 817's internal electronic keyer is a bit slow between Tx and Rx, could some one out there who uses CW most of the time with the 817 please let me know on how it performs and what type of key or paddle do they use, "I am thinking about buying a Vibroplex brass racer paddle only if I get some good feedback about the 817 and it's CW capability's". Don
I found the MFJ version to be a little nicer, (physically) than the Bencher.
