Ten*Tec makes a couple transverters now, for 6M and 2M. They are
available as kits or fully assembled and work just great. I have built
and used both of them prior to buying an FT-847.

Ten*Tec has this project on the radar screen but I think a few hundred
emails from the ham community may help speed the project along.

Hi Paul,

I have the tentec 6m transverter; will send a note of interest concerning 220. I
enjoy all band operations - 160 - 1200 and above, and have a pair of FT-736's which
i use for most of my VHF work. One has 6, 2, 220, and 430 while the other has 1.2G
substitued for 6m. So, I am pretty well covered on 220 for all modes. And, I will
admit, other than a bunch of FM operations here in the Chicago area, 220 is pretty
dead - but most guys today are appliance operators and it takes a 220 all mode rig
to spur interest. But during the VHF contests, field day, and when propagation gets
going, you will always hear some sideband and CW on that band as well. Quite a few
hams in the area snagged up FT-736 units when they heard it was being discontinued
just to have the 220 capability. To me, it is a splendid band - 2M-like propagation
without nearly as much noise / potential IM problems. And I really don't have any
other issues with any of the Japanese manufacturers, including Kenwood - they all
make fine gear. It is just misleading and foolish - I think - to avoid this band in
a radio like the TS-2000.

Nice to meet you in the -817 group - hope we can share more thoughts as the 817
begins to really ship here in teh US.
