Chinese FT-817 TCXO?
It looks like the OEM TCXO-9 is out of stock, I am not sure if it is
discontinued or there are just supply chain issues. There are all kinds of Chinese copies of these things for dirt cheap. However, it seems that they increase the noise floor on the receiver. Are there any of these copies that don't do this? Thanks, Chris KQ6UP |
Christopher,
it seems that here is the Yaesu TCXO-9 still available: so do not bother yourself with Chinese junks... The smaller TCXO case is latest actual version, the bigger one TTSO1NS-P1 package is older one produced in 2018. If you would have problems with purchase in Germany then I am ready to help you. 73 - Petr, OK1RP |
Good Day Chris,? In Part Of Your Statement You Indicated "that they increase the noise floor on the receive" Do You Actually Have The Comparison Information
I Have a Original FT-817 and a FT-817ND That Have (4 year old) Chinese FT-817 TCXO installed thus I Am Not able to make the comparison to a "Factory TXCO". I Did restore back to the original factory stock unit in my FT-817ND and did some "comparison" sound testing on 20M-15M-10M? lasting some 4 hours (using a HP O-Scope) and Could Not See Any Additional Noise Difference with the Chinese FT-817 TCXO, So Back IN. Can the noise be With the More Recent TCXO's due to product quality? A point of Interest and Information for any one using the China LiON Battery Packs, A few local hams have reported that they have heard "birdies" from the Packs since the individual cells have "rudimentary" controllers that are active when in use,Nothing Big but a bit annoying , no "Birdies" when switching back to NiMH Packs. ? ?? Thank you Steve, that is the information I was looking for. I was
wondering if there were some variations between samples of these Chinese TCXOs to see if it was worth bothering with. I have no issues with the stock local oscillator, but if I ever wanted to do WSPR on 2m or something it could be problematic. So it sounded like a cheap upgrade. The "OEM" ones that people have posted here look a little different than the OEM ones I have seen in images online. Maybe Yaesu changed up their parts on them, and I don't see the maker stamp Yaesu on them either. On Thu, Oct 13, 2022 at 12:20 PM Steve Sawicki via groups.io <ab2et@...> wrote:

Chris, Still available but changed layout and parts from 2018 in production… I will try to find it again and share it.? 73 - Petr, OK1RP |
It sounds like some are worse than others.? I will have to see one.? Purchased one from Amazon.? If it is noisy, I can return it. On Thu, Oct 13, 2022 at 1:16 PM Petr Ourednik <indians@...> wrote:

Good Morning Petr,
Yes the Internet is? very wide and deep If you do Find the Information Please Post, I Have tried different variations so far No Luck. So Far In All Of My Years of? FT-817's Operations I have Not Noticed " phase noise" problem. Did Notice what may be interpreted as " phase noise"? when USERS where using? Switching? PSU "Bricks and even "Fancy" Switching Power Supplies that? where curable? that had "noise offset" adjustment capabilities The "Bricks" even the best still had what som with ( 20 year old hearing) abilities, Hi Hi may call " phase noise" . The Funny Part? that I noticed, that in some recent Florida Hamfests You can pick up a FT-817 for the Asking "Cost" of a Collins CW Filter. Best Regar Steve AB2ET/4 |

Whatever the new part is may be similar. I modified my TTS01NS based older TCXO-9 with a 3V SOT-23 low noise LDO regulator with several extra decoupling caps fitted too. It is back to better stability with this mod. -- Brian Morrison G8SEZ |

This morning a list member in a collins group I'm a member of apologetically offered a Collins 500 KC CW for $299 - he said he knew the price was outrageous, but that's what they fetch.

Ken, The Sad Part Was That The FT-817 (original)? Was in Fairly? Excellent Cosmetic Condition, No Battery, no power cord had the Mike and a 10M BNC Pull Up Antenna. The asking Was $225 Since I was Not Abel to Power and check I offers $175.. Well I Now Have a Third FT-817 in the "Fleet"? Powered up easily on the bench checked out 4.88W? and Even Made a contact on 10 M, Had Some Strange, Strange Frequencies in the Memories and it was "WideBanded".The Surprise Was the "SSB" Filter installed in the Slot.? ?

Ok, Chinese (Purchased on Amazon a few days ago) seems to work FB. It
is very clean. I only found a couple of very minor birdies (only one on 7.254Mhz that could possibly interfere with a very weak LSB station on 40m in perfectly quiet CONDX). I also noticed that the OEM LO had some birdies of its own too. I would imagine that they all produce some very minor spurious signals -- even the OEM TCXO. However, I think there are some out there that spray trash all over the band. This is not one of them. -KQ6UP On Tue, Oct 18, 2022 at 11:53 AM Steve Sawicki via groups.io <ab2et@...> wrote:

I've had one of the cheap Chinese TCXO in my radio for a while and it's been absolutely fine. It's possible, with a bit of patience and swearing, to tweak the frequency of these to within a few Hertz of spec. Well worth the few pounds spent.
Now, if only they did cheap narrow CW filters on AliExpress ? |
