Is there any OM who can tell me the specs of the microphone to use with the 817? I'd like to use my headphone set, but I can't have any modulation I put the headset output to the standard microphone connector (with an adapter...). Maybe I need to use the data connector?

I made an adapter that I use with a Heil headset and also a computer headset. If you look at the mic pin connections in the 817 manual pg 5. Pin 4 is the mic audio input and you need to install a 4.7k ohm resistor to pin 6 ( marked +5v) to provide power for the mic element. The same adapter works for both the Heil and the computer headset mic. If I remember correctly the numbers on the plug pin out in the manual is reversed fron a cat5 pin out.

Thanks a lot. I'll try the trick. Pietro I2OIM (via Tablet)

I am corn-fuzed or out dated.
My previous Heil headset microphones
were all with dynamic elements. Are they now with electrite
(sp) elements?
I remember discussions about
making them available or to modify to them.
I remember my FT-100 & FT-857D when mobile, I sometimes
used my
Heil set for 2 meters & HF EMCOMMs. It wired directly up
to the connector.
Getting old.

Actually, I don't know. The headset I'm using is a mono one for a single ear, semiprofessional for?contact center. I didn't try with headsets for smartphone or similar.? Pietro (via Tablet)

Maybe I saw wrong, but I
thought someone referred to a Heil Headset,
Pietro. Typical headsets for office use use electorate
condenser microphones
and need adaption to use with the FT-817 and other Yaesu
radios.
Heil is a brand of headsets, not a
nomenclature for headset design with a
boom microphone.

Joe, I don't understand. The first to mention Heil was you, wasn't? If the microphone?is a condenser type, the resistor that Pat suggested to me was the solution . Solved!

I was the one yo first mention Heil but i originally made the adapter for a computer headset. It just happened that I got a Heil headset at a hamfest and it works fine with the same adapter. It may not need the resistor for power but it works fine.
