There's a neat, 50W design in the current ARRL handbook. It uses two
commodity (read: dirt cheap) MOSFETs at 24V/4A for 50W PEP off 2W in.
eBay usually lists 100W linears at $100 or so. The design is similar
to Motorola application notes; the box looks like a very short
production runs by no-name brands, targeting illegal CBers (5W AM/SSB
input).
BUYERS BEWARE -- you probably need a low pass filter to bring
harmonic
emissions down to US legal level (-40dBc?).
