morse code interference?

benalamon

I did the mod for the ft 817 and now I hear morse code on AM, SSB and
CW on 2 meters and 440 mhz not just on one frequency but on all it
seems like it has to do with the if of the radio or something but Its
there even when I listen to the aircraft band it's there. Anyone has
the same problem like mine? let me know how to solve it.

thanks a bunch....

Redo the mod, reheating all the shorted jumpers to ensure good
soldering, then inspect the jumpers with a microscope. Binoculars
backward works well. Look for microscopic filaments of solder
bridging the open jumpers. Regardless, clean up around all of the
jumpers with a sharpened toothpick (you'll see what I mean in the
microscope).

I did my mod, and everything seemed to be as expected, until I
happened to try to go to 6 meters a few weeks later, and couldn't tune
to that band using band-up band-down, I'd jump from 10 meters to FM
broadcast. Tuning up from 10M brought me down to 160M, and down from
FM broadcast took me back to the top of FM broadcast. I had a few
tiny "hairs" that were very close to shorting the jumpers. Cleaning
all the jumpers and redoing the reset fixed it. There's no
configuration of jumpers that enables everything except for 6 meters.
This was a freak configuration - repeatable through repeated CPU resets.

Also, clean up any excess flux you see on the board. No guarantees,
but a non-deterministic configuration could do just about anything.
