I work mostly cw and Saturday my sidetone quit. However tonite while working 17 I noticed if I press the headphones against my ear I can hear it real faint.
Now and this really ticks me off, I just listened on 6m its open, grabbed the mic and nada. I had it set on usb, nothing has been changed. Key the mic I get the PO but no bars. A real quick check, yep, it works on cw, seems to work on fm and am, but nada on ssb. Tried a full reset, and no dice again. Anyone have these problems? Jerry - NR5A - South Dakota |

Well, nobody offered any ideas to my post, so I'll ask is there anyone around that repairs 817's cheap? I had to rake and scape to get the money for this radio a month ago, so the kitty is broke. Anyone??

Anyone?? Jerry, As a last ditch effort, try taking off the covers to your 817 and carefully inspect all of the ribbon cable , and jumpers on the main board. Perhaps something came loose ? If the above doesnt help, then be prepared to send it off to Yaesu for repairs when you can. I wouldn't think there are any Cheap 817 repair folks out there since the radio is all surface mount. Troubleshooting it would require a bench filled with test gear worth many times more than the radio itself. Perhaps there is a shop with ex-Yaesu techs that will repair it for you? Try doing a web search! Just remember that you get what you pay for. A local ham friend used one of those independent "cheap" type shops and ended spending hundreds on a rig that still refuses to work. He bought the Yaesu rig used and discovered that it had problems. What a mess... eh? Good luck, and hope you might be able to find a loose connector that will return your rig back to normal. 73, Ken WB6MLC |
