Hello to all! I've been looking for good ways to pack my 817 &
accessories (ZM-2, gell cell, etc) around. I intend to take it with
me to the private swim club my kids and I spend a lot of time at
during the summer, so one of my goals is something that will protect
the equipment. A chain discount store (Meijer's Thrifty Acres,
similar to Wal-Mart) had something called a "Sportsman's Dry Box",
which looks like an army surplus ammo box but is made of plastic.
This cost about $12 US. I then went to a craft store and bought a
2-inch thick sheet of stryrofoam, which I used to build up a liner
with recesses for the 817, ZM-2, and a 7-AH gell cell. I've posted a
photo of my first rev. of the resulting outfit to the Carrying Case
Ideas folder. The gell cell is under the ZM-2, and the recess the
paddle sits in also provides a path for sound from the speaker. The
total cost of the case and stryrofoam was about $10 US. 73!
