I don't have the One Plug Power battery unit but I do have the One Touch Tune unit and it is built to last and does what it is supposed to do. In fact it does it very nicely. Not having to struggle with the tiny FT-817 display to change modes makes a hugh difference. So I would imagine the battery is every bit as nice.

Using orange screen center is darker than edges rather like a bit cloudy in center.
NB OK on ignition noise but nothing else.

Greetings to all. Just a note to let everybody know that we have added a message board. to . We would like to see it used for friendly contact between portable and QRP HF enthusiasts. As well as to promote other groups of the same content.
Also please note the new TacPack(tm) cases for the FT-100, IC-706, SG-2020 and the Elecraft K2.
Also a new battery for us: 12V 2.5Ah SLA battery My husband and I will be working off 3 of these on field day weekend as our only source of power. On a SG-2020 and and 2 FT-817's. Will also have a interesting antenna to try. Will be taking pictures and will share them with the group.

The people at Miracle Whip tell me the "whip" is a telescoping element. Doesn't that mean purely mechanical contacts with some signal loss at each joint? Also it would seem logical that skin oil will get on the sections after a time, degrading the connections. -- Bil KD6JUI

Message: 4 Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 05:52:59 -0000 From: "KQ6XA" <xtalradio@...> Subject: Field Days HFpack Invitation (special schedule)
HFpack Special Schedule 22~24 JUNE 2001
HFpack invites FT-817 operators to join in the fun surrounding Field Day with a special emphasis on QSOs with walking portable, pedestrian, bicycle, low power mobile, and backpack portable stations. HFpack's special operating schedule will be in effect 22~24 JUNE 2001. Time: 30 minutes past each hour Frequencies: 18157kHz USB (CW 18158) +/-5kHz 24977kHz USB (CW 24978) +/-5kHz 10137kHz CW or PSK31
Background: Field Day is a great tradition that brings ham radio operators together. Hams venture outdoors to set up portable stations. A high degree of activity among single-operator battery powered lightweight HF portable is expected this year, due to the recent popularity of the FT-817 and other low power backpack transceivers. Some will be solo... many of us will be out setting up for Field Day and participating in larger club efforts for the event. HFpack recognizes the desire to contact operators who are using similar gear and experience some of the fun with them on the air. The HFpack special operating schedule serves as a meeting place for those who want to share a QSO away from the contest crowd or relax during a break in the action.

-- Bil KD6JUI Hi Bil,
I'm sorry.. But I think we have done this one to death..(many times)
I don't think this is news, To the best of my knowledge this type of telescopic whip as always functioned in this way..!!

Does somebody know if there are any monophones built for 817, or how to make it ? It would be easier to use radio when walking in the forest etc..

Hi, thats me again...
The solution is VERY easy... The BNC plus is an RCA/BNC adaptor just pressed in.
Could easily removed and replaced by a new one (or a UHF plug for example).
Just pull the BNC plug out of the antenna using a BNC jack or just some pliers.
You will see a standard adaptor coming out. Take care, there could be a small white plastic washer, not loose it. Replace the dead adaptor by a new one, thats it!
If you dont have such an adaptor and cannot buy it round the corner, we will send you one as a letter.
OK? Sorry for the trouble... 73 Volkmar DF2SS WiMo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Spot the hottest trends in music, movies, and more.

Stereo headphones, such as for a walkman, work just fine (i.e., you'll hear in both ears). Nice touch by Yaesu.

Be carefull! I purchased 1800 mah Nimh batteries at Dayton. Their outside diamter is a little larger than normal (at least the ones I bought), and they don't fit in the FT-817 holder!! For about the same price you can get the W4RT "One-plug power" unit that you can quick charge with the external MaHa charger without removing the battery pack. Phil - AD5X Phil, I wanted to purchase the W4RT "One-plug power" unit at Dayton but they
were sold out. I ordered one at that time but have not yet received it yet. Its' been a month and still waiting.
Would like to hear some comments about the unit if anyone has actually used one.
