Trip report -- sort of.... :-(

First, my ATX finally came from WiMo (purchased at Dayton), right
before I left. So I threw it in the bag (Army surplus map case,
lotsa room for wire, batteries, & pencils) & off we went. Got to
Valley Forge & went for a walk. Threw the ATX on the BNC connector,
listened a bit, walked, listened a bit more, made a couple calls &
SWR is throught the roof (yes, I had a counterpoise attached).
Realize that now I can't hear anything. Take the ATX off & whaddaya
know? The spike on the BNC connector is broken off. Needless to
say, I am NOT a happy camper. Haven't had time yet to contact WiMo
for a replacement....

Now, a question for Pres & the other East-Coasters on the list:
What in the @#$^%#@ is going on? Did you guys decide to rebuild
EVERY road east of the Pennsylvania - Ohio border all at once? And
what is up with traffic at 8:30PM local on a Sunday night through
NYC? It took 2-1/2 hours just to get through! So, I didn't get on
the air until much later than planned, and only for a very short time
on two evenings rather than every night. Didn't get any DX.

Thanks to those who listened for me, & sorry I didn't get to work
you....

Re: Your comment on road construction. You must have been in PA. We now live
in Southern Maryland and used to liven in NJ but we have friends and family
in PA and often travel through it. Every time we go there, we curse the PA
road department. It seems they like to block off 20 miles of road for
construction even though they are only actually working on 1 mile of it.
Sometimes they have so many roads blocked that it is difficult to find a
detour. What can I tell you, write to the PA road department :-)

As far as traffic around NYC at 8:00 PM on Sunday night. Well, if you lived
there, you would certainly want out for the weekend to enjoy some space and
fresh air. Assuming that most people need to return for work on Monday
morning they are on the road Sunday night. Welcome to NYC with 8 million
residents crowded into a few square miles. Boy, Southern Maryland is a great
place to live :-)
