Windows CE??

Rich Bay

Is there any chance you will look at porting the memory management routines
in FT-Basic to a Windows CE Product (Ipaq) or a Palm Device?

Hi Bob,
I've been using a Windows CE device running a DOS emulator as a
portable controller for some time now and it works well. A dedicated CE
program would be great but I think it should be at least Ver. 2.01 compatible
as well as Pocket PC (ver 3.0) as the slightly older devices are quite cheap
on the second hand market.

Oh well, never mind about it being a private email - and here's the
reply I sent as well!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Believe it or not, I have just ordered the Windows CE 3.0 development
pack from Microsoft. As your mail came in I was on the web looking at
Developing Applications for the Pocket PC with Microsoft? eMbedded
Visual Basic? 3.0!!

As they say - watch this space...

The downside of all this is that the equipment to run it on does not
come cheap. I am already faced with finding $300.00 for some better
tools in developing on the traditional Windows platform. I can't fund
all this from thin air, so there may have to be - as they say - a few
dollars more! Perhaps I should ask eGroup what interest there would
be in a CE 3.0 version.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

So, is there much interest in a Windows CE version? From the
development point of view I guess it would be a lot quicker to
get going than using Palm kit.

Is this something suitable for a poll?

Let me start...

I vote for a Palm interface rather then CE. If you have not already looked
at Code Warrior you may want too as it has a common interface for most all
of their tools.

Hey Bob,

This is Gerry, W1VE/VE1RM... I just registered your app the other day.
I do software development in Visual Basic for a living.... and am a
MSDN Universal Member... So I have all the software... I don't have
a Pocket PC at the moment... Although I've been thinking of a good
excuse to get one; so maybe I will.

The question is... Do you want/need any help on the development side?
You can read about me at or
...

I'm not interested in $$$ -- just having fun w/my FT-817!

(I'm still trying to put together an interface cable -- don't want to
pay Yaesu the incredible $$$ for a simple cable.!)

I vote for Palm interface. PSK with my Palm V to my FT817 I would
definitely be willing to spend money for!

You are not willing to pay $30 for the proper cable with RS-232 to TTL level
converters built into a compact plug with the proper connectors and a
guarantee to not ruin your radio?

Amazing...

I think I paid $26 for mine at R&L, which is much better than trying to
homebrew something that will be a kludge when finished...

Any competent builder should be able to make an interface and test
that it doesn't put out any damaging voltages before connecting it to
the radio. The cost saving probably isn't the main point of the
exercise, either.
