Homebrew HF Antenna
Stephanie WX3K
I recently attended Dayton and bought the antenna bracket for the MP-1. I
had purchased a K-40 whip antenna with a tunable stinger for 10 meters......I stuck a longer stinger in it last night, tuned it for the SSB segment of 20 meters and tried making a contact on 20 meter SSB this evening with the 817 sitting on top of my car. FG5BG with a 55 report....not too shabby ! I find that the car forms a very nice capacitively coupled counterpoise.....Antenna loads very well.....BUT I need a wire counterpoise when holding the 817....the match is marginal. Stephanie R. I am interested in your antenna. Is that the original K-40 antenna? Doesn't that come with a trunk mount? I may be thinking of a different antenna. Please send me model numbers if possible and more information. How much longer does the whip need to be to tune 20 meters? I need a low profile mobile 20 meter antenna... something more like a cb antenna and your experiment may work for me. Thank you for the info. Kelly Ellison - WB0WQS ----- Original Message -----
