Roger on the receiver!!
That is where the rubber meets the road. (Sorry, tires are in the news
too
much lately.)

I wish that docking would take place with rigs. I would have thought
that
by now, there would be a 2m HT radio that slid into either a front panel
or
microphone which then is really two radios, portable and mobile.
Put a decent receiver in the module and then a small exciter/modulator
that
would either excite a 5 W HT brick or a 50 W mobile amp.

After having the Yaesu FT-290MKII/690/790 series of radios I was somewhat suprised that the design of the FT-817 was not similar. The docking mobile amp and snap on low pwr bat pack is really a cool setup and works very well as a mobile/shoulder pack QRP set up. Of course it is similar to the MK1 series with the internal battery pack and all. Makes me wonder if there will later be some snap on pack of C cells or larger and 50-100 mobile docking amp of some sort. That would be VERY COOL in my book. Think I'll sign up and get one of the first ones anyway though!!

Doesnt look like there is provision for a snap on batt/amp pack on
the rear Paul, Isnt there someone out there who knows of a say 50w
all band/mode linear driven by 1-5 watts for variable output ?

heh heh heh

Cute. An all mode linear. Is that like non-skid anti-lock brakes?

Ten Tec used to make a 50 amp for the Argonaut rigs. If I recall, our FCC
made things like that illegal to be sold in the USA. Seems that they were
really popular with the 27 MHz crowd.

Cheers.

Sorry Paul, You know what I'm getting at though, probably the mad
thing about my request is that we are waiting for a qrp rig to show
(who needs a linear) I'm sure I dont but I am curious if there is
such a thing. (My msg did mean more of an all band more than mode Hi!
Anyhow I hope you US Hams are going to post all ur findings on the
thing when you receive your rigs now the FCC has passed its approval.
(The EU stamp of approval over will probably hum & har for a few
month & we'll end up with a rig covered in all sorts of screening
tape etc yuk!.

Oh! sorry Paul I forgot , 50amp ? is this why the FCC back-heeled it
because the company should have printed 50watts on the Arganaut ?
or is it because ur typing this while you are stamping on ur anti-
skid/anti-lock brakes, typing ur reply while mobile ??

(Ha ha ha ha just thought id get my own back Hi! see you soon Cheers

Glad you did not take offense John! I am still chuckling over it a few
hours later. Here in the US there is another odd term we hear in the
media frequently... a high-powered assault rifle! Like there's such a
thing as a LOW POWER assault rifle...

Now some gun fanatic will tell us all there is... but the point is
mute. When the bullets fly, I'll take a high powered assault rifle.

We will keep everyone informed on this rig and trust you blokes will do
the same. My mother came to the US from Blackpool in 1955. We may take
her back for a visit this next spring/summer.

huh... actually I typed, "50 amp" but you're right! There still should
have been a capital W after the 50. I think I was still laughing. :-)

Ten*Tec made a 50 WATT amp. It was called a Model 409. You can see one
in my website museum.
