Awesome !?
I have abt? 4 or? 5?? VX6Rs.
What a great piece of RF test gear.
I can actually feed a? GE mastr II rcvr? with RF from teh VX6? directly?? using the 10mW?? TX level? and? tune the? rcvr .
Great? exciter to test? 100W? PAs? on vhf and uhf.
Wish they built it to? accept larger batteries.
I usually carry a pair of them with my Ft817 in my radio go bag. From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of Zack Widup via groups.io <w9sz.zack@...>

Many years ago I built the famous Motorola AN-762 amp that puts out 100 watts with 5 watts drive on HF through 30 MHz. I get full power out of it driving it with the FT-817 except on 10 meters, where I get maybe 50 watts out. I have also had a VX-6R for
many years. It is the best handheld I have owned. I use the receiver function for AM on medium wave and shortwave stations, and the FM reception in the 162 MHz weather band and the commercial FM band. And my home town has a 222 MHz repeater. I get to use the
VX6R on it when I'm there.

Typically dealers get gear for 36% off list and typically see 18% discounts.? But have not seen discounted IC705, still $1350 everywhere. If FTM-1 sells well will not it discounted IMHO. I will stick with my IC705, see no reason to go with the FTM-1, but is very nice looking rig.

No, the clip-on 10w tuner (FC-80) has an MSRP of $400.

I haven't looked too deeply, but there's an optional fan for FT8 operation (on a 6/10 watt radio?!), supplied battery, and an Optional ATU that clips on to the radio in QRP (field) configuration - I think you can have all this clipped together and have a 6/10 watt field radio with an ATU to run FT8 for only $2,200 (MSRP). Re: FTX-1 Pricing Announced
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýA few notes on the price: It is the MSRP, not the ultimate street price - only folks that insist on buying the radio as soon as it is released will likely pay that price. At an eventual street price of $1,400-1,500 (I predict), it's probably a fair price given the comprehensive features it includes (like dual receivers). It is much, much more than just an FT-817/818 replacement (2nd receiver, 'fish finder', improved performance, Fusion, etc). Also, Yaesu is having a YouTube session/podcast to discuss this new radio today (May 2) at noon CST: ? I wonder how many people will be cancelling their reservations when they finally learn the price of the radio? I understand there are a lot of reservations - a whole lot - but I suspect many heard "FT-818 replacement" 6-9 months ago and thought it would be an $800 radio, we'll find out soon. I am on board with Zack. I have plenty of? FT817s?? to use as? IFs? or? TX? drivers? , or whatever.? They are still great for a? multitude of? ham and? non ham operations. Money is spent already.?? Its a known product? ,? legacy? RF architecture, and? draws?
little? current ,? so it can be? used in the field for a long time.
I have someone? working on carbon fibre covers? for the radio ,? to make it even more? field? friendly.
Also have a chinese?? 45W? minipA?? for it ,?? that can use its own power supply.
Its still one of the best all around?? radios to throw in a pack?? and go into the filed with.
Yaesu should have kept with the FT817?? model? ,? as there? is still demand for it.
? They still make the? VX6R? HT.? which is?? probably one of the most versatile HTs? out there today.
Seems that since Yaesu shed the? Vertex?? division,?? they went all out digital radio crazy.
I'll keep lookimng for the? older stuff.??
I also have afew FT100s. Neat radio,? gives me? 100W all mode on? HF and? 6m? for very little space in the car.
Full freq? coverage ,?? even 70 mhz .? Neat radio .
FT857 is? more ergonomically friendly?? than the FT100.?
Its tough to beat the? antenna port ? flexibility that the FT817 offers , allowing you to use a 2m? 5/8 wave? vertical for? 6m as well.
Keep an Ft857 or Ft100 in teh car .? and? carry the FT817

I am not going to spend anywhere near that amount for a radio now. I have been perfectly happy with the FT817ND, mainly used as a 144 and 432 MHz IF rig for microwave transverters. There are a few bells and whistles it lacks, but in my usage I don't need
them. I added the W1GHZ Panadapter mod and now I have figured out how to use a Raspberry Pi for the spectrum monitor using an RTL-SDR dongle. It's small and draws about 1/10 the current that my laptop does. That's important during portable operations using
batteries.
I also have an FT857D, which does have the DSP functions that the FT817 lacks.

Re: FTX-1 Pricing Announced
Some web sites selling it but not on shop yet Lots of detail here: €1,848.00 incl. VAT, plus shipping €1,552.94 ex VAT. Available 2026-06-13 (13th June). IMO more a low power (6W to 10W) replacement of the FT897 than the FT817/FT817ND/FT818 Not here yet (my fav supplier for last 20 years). The FT-991A "nearly all band" has been out for a while, but not exactly as portable as an FT897 (or an FT857 with an LiFePO4 battery pack). I might fit a buffer and filter in front of 68MHz IF and SMA socket for a portable panadapter using a cheap spectrum analyser on my FT817ND. I can test first with my real Rigol spectrum analyser and the FTDX10. If done cunningly with option to disable mixer it can drive a transverter for other bands. |

Re: Strane SMA on REAR.
I mounted a small SMA on the rear of my FT817ND. It is used as the output of the IF (68,33 MHz) to watch as a spectrum display on an SDR module. I use the FUNCube dongle, as recommended. See photo. Strane SMA on REAR.
Hi to all!
I have a great FT817ND... bought used, replaced the internal battery and all run well. I replaced the "light" power connector with a coupler that provide two Anderson connector from Windcamp.
I noticed about a small SMA connector on rear... I don't know why it is here... Some friends told me that it can be a wide-spectrum signal from IF (???). Someone know something?
?
Thanks to all,
