Scoring blade noise

Okay, figured out how to get my videos up on Youtube so that emails aren't rejected due to file size.? I just mounted my scoring blade today for the first time.? When I turn on the scoring blade, it makes a kind of buzzing type of sound, almost like there was a belt vibration.? It isn't bad, but I want to ask you all if this is the normal noise from a scoring blade.?

This first video is WITHOUT the scoring blade running and the saw sounds very smooth:

Second video is WITH scoring blade running:

Is this normal for scoring motor?

Thanks,
Aaron

Something is clearly wrong here - the scoring saw should not make a noise like that. ?I hazard a guess or two - total SWAG:

The scoring saw blade or saw arbor is not installed properly and is causing excessive vibration, or?
The scoring saw motor is not getting proper power.

Is this a single-phase machine? ?Is the scoring saw rotating when you turn it on?

The machine is a single-phase machine.? The scoring blade is rotating fine and cuts just fine.? Should I be contacting Felder tech support at this point?

I guess I’d like to hear it with the main saw blade removed so it’s not making noise, and with dust extraction or other noises eliminated. ?

Okay, new videos.? I removed all blades so that we can hear exactly what the motors are doing.

K700S without scoring motor - all blades removed:

K700S WITH scoring motor - all blades removed:

The buzzing on the scoring motor stops after 5 seconds and sounds similar to the noise I hear while I hold-down the power button for the main motor startup-capacitor.? This leads me to believe that the circuit is cutting out the scoring motor starting capacitor at that point.? The sound after is quieter, but still has a slight buzzing character.?

Well, to be honest with you, your machine is producing a lot of low frequency noise with just the main saw arbor running. ?I hear a loud rumble at 117 Hz which sounds like the electronic brake is engaged, but I suspect it’s not the brake but something else. ?Given the frequency, it seems suspiciously electronic in nature. ?The wine of the scoring saw motor is an octave above at 234 Hz. for several seconds. ?This leads me to think the noise is electrically related. ?Sorry that’s not much help, and is certainly speculative.

I’d be interested in seeing/hearing a video from someone else who has a single-phase K700 and listening to what that machine sounds like. ?Does anybody else anyone who has listened to these videos have the same negative reaction to the low pitched/loud rumble going continuously?

I have a single phase KF700, ?very quiet while staring and running.?

Hi Aaron,?

Just a thought, but on your scoring blade, is there any kind of accumulation of resin on some of the teeth, or are any of the teeth damaged? I've run into both situations on my machine.?

I don't use my scoring blade much, so if I'm cutting resinous material the resin can accumulate on one acute area of the scoring blade, resulting in it making more noise than when clean.?

In the other situation, I was cutting aluminum and a small block got launched by the primary blade down below the table, knocking several teeth off the scoring blade. I was surprised by how much vibration was caused by the scoring blades only missing a couple teeth.?

Anyways, might be having a quick look to make sure your scoring blades are clean, and in good condition (not damaged or missing teeth). Hope you're able to resolve your situation soon.?

Tom - the last two videos I posted were with the saw blades completely removed (both main blade and scoring blade).? That being said, I do not have any resin/debris on any saw teeth and my main/scoring blades are in good condition.

All - I just got an email back from Felder technical support.? They listened to my videos and are saying that "everything they heard in my video sounds perfectly normal".?? I sent a follow up asking if 3-phase machines would sound different.

brandywinewindsors - Can I ask a favor?? Can you remove all your blade and push your slider forward.? Then power on the saw both WITH and WITHOUT the scoring motor engaged.? Then compare the sound to my videos and let me know if they seem the same.

anyone else who has a single phase machine - please comment if you can.

Thanks all,

Aaron Inami

Since we have a lack of replies here, I'm publishing the response from Felder technical support:

"A 1 ph motor will most definitely sound different while starting, stopping, and running than a 3ph motor.
I certainly don't have access to whatever frequency monitoring software that I assume you friend was using.
That said If he's referring to the noise of his 3ph machine than we are most definitely comparing apples and oranges!
His note regarding the higher frequency noise from the scoring unit "for several seconds" is indeed true. ? Though as I stated this is due to the start winding of the motor still being engaged.
I do not detect anything wrong w/ the way your machine sounds from the videos you've sent.
"

Thanks,
Aaron
