SCM Spindle Moulder T130 query

Hello
I have been a member since about 2005 and this is my first post :)
?
Recently purchased 2002 SCM T130 with 1 & 1/4" spindle. Because I have Felder machines I want to change to a 30 mm spindle on the T130. All wisdom is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Graeme.

I don’t know if this will help but I bought a 30 mm spindle from SCM 2002. I would just contact Parts at SCM.
You’ll also need a tube to handle to change the spindle back-and-forth.

The spindle won't be cheap.? To get up and running, you might buy a couple of 1"-30MM bushings for the 1" spindle.? You don't need many and if you keep the cutter low on the spindle, you will be fine for most cuts.? You want precision bushings.?

Check Oella for the tube Mac spoke of for swapping spindles if not included with your machine.? They sometimes have them as well as bushings for a reasonable price.

You could have a machine shop make a spindle for you, and it may be less expensive than a brand name one, depending on how complicated the spindle is.? They are usually made to H7,g6 tolerance class with H7 referring to the most common tooling bore range used, and the g6 referring to the spindle itself.? I have my spindles made a little larger (would fall in the middle of h6 or h7) for a tighter fit but g6 is fine.? It may be worth getting a quote for it if SCM wants a fortune for one.

If you don't want a 1.25" spindle, and don't think you will ever want a 1.25" spindle. I would just have the spindle you have turned down to 30mm by a machine shop.

Hi Graeme,?
?
Congrats on the new machine!! I have a 2024 TF-130 and I just love it.?
?
Hmm, looking at your photos, I'm skeptical that you have an interchangeable spindle, I think your machine may have what SCM calls a "fixed" spindle. While I'm sure you could extricate the spindle with some disassembly, I don't think you'll be swapping spindles on a regular basis.?
?
Here is a photo of the 1-1/4" "MK5 Interchangeable Spindle" on my 2024 TF-130:
?
?
Here's another shot, with the 1-1/4" spindle installed, and my 40mm spindle on the table. Note the large ring nut on both spindles:?
?
?
As suggested, you're probably best served by first calling SCM with your serial number to see if they can look up the machine configuration to see what your options might be.?
?
I'll put my ignorance on full display here and ask if it might be less trouble to have your 30mm tooling bored out to 1-1/4"??
?
Good luck on your new machine!?

After looking at your spindle again, it looks like you’re between a rock and a hard spot. If you need to turn the spindle down to 30 mm the then you have to remove the whole spindle assembly, probably 2 1/2 feet long.
Guess what you have is fix spindle as shown by the other guys yet there’s a nut at the bottom that would be removable for a M5 taper I would just leave it inch and a quarter not a big drawback in the future buy your tooling with a 40 mm bore and then you can bush it either 30 mm or inch and a quarter.
