really hating sliding saw for panels
Everytime I try to cut a panel, something moves, or bends down, or wobbles, etc. I have this huge order and Need giant clamps, toggle clamps are junk and are not holding it all down.?
I am having to cut my panels down to 1200x1200 with my festool track and then work with those. Am about to list this saw for sale and a get a vertical panel saw.? sorry for the venting, but i'm just so frustrated.? |
what saw do you have?

also..Mac Clamps are AWESOME for holding down sheets on the slider

开云体育Yea what saw are you using? Clamps are nice but you don’t need them to properly use a slider, what is your technique??Regards, Mark On Mar 27, 2020, at 9:22 AM, Randy Child via Groups.Io <strongman_one@...> wrote:

开云体育Michael, You may not have time to do it right now and likely know this already but pneumatic clamps not only take care of this problem but avoid all the pressure on the hand/finger if not using a clamp and also keep hands away from blade. Give Mac (airtight clamps) a call. Imran? i'm just setting the panel up, setting it against crosscut fence, holding it tight in angle direction so it stays tight against the fence. But the weight of the panel on either side corner cause it to lift up higher on one side which is causing mitered cuts and not 90 degree. I just wish i went with a vertical panel saw. so much easier for my application - but i got sold on the slider.? |
Michael, ? Do you have an auxiliary?support table for the slider to hold up the plywood not on the outrigger? Dave Davies On Fri, Mar 27, 2020 at 8:34 AM Michael Glaser <1michaelglaser1@...> wrote: k975 S --

I've been waiting on an official OEM accessory to arrive, but this works pretty great for more support than outrigger can do by itself. Someone else suggested them a couple months ago at home depot, they are husky adjustable height tables, they are cheap, and they are quick to get. Also, my floor isn't level or smooth hete, and it hasn't been much of a problem. On Fri, Mar 27, 2020, 8:34 AM Michael Glaser <1michaelglaser1@...> wrote: k975 S |
开云体育Sounds like you need an auxiliary table like Dave mentioned, Sounds like you ?have the fence at an angle and you are cutting a miter on a full sheet, is that correct? ?Clamping would help for that, but aux support should be enough?Regards, Mark On Mar 27, 2020, at 9:36 AM, David Davies <myfinishingtouch@...> wrote:

Ok.. now I will probably get some flack for this, but I had the same issue when trying to rip or break down a 4 x 8' sheet.. so what I do now, is I put that crazy horse dolly on the back end of the sheet that's drooping and that holds my sheet up level with the sliding table as I push the sheet thru the blade.? The dolly rolls nicely along with me as I walk forward. Works really well and I can use the dolly on either side of the slider..

This helps..like A LOT.. and easy to make and is invaluable for moving and getting the sheets up onto the saw too. this is a picture from underneath the sheet to show how it helps. the urethane silicone dome is adjustable for height?

I do not have an auxiliary table. I just ripping/cross cutting sheets. Nothing at an angle, I just lush at a slight angle towards the stop/fence like I am supposed too. Not a ton of pressure. the issue is not squareness, it is one corner dangling down causing the opposite corner to dangle up... |
开云体育?I would think, not owning one, that a vertical panel saw is an alternative to Festool track saw not a panel saw with slider. It can only do rough cut not final cut. I cannot imagine cutting large panels to final size without an outrigger and clamps. Imran? If you are willing to buy a vertical panel saw, dont do what I did.....bought one, found all its limitations, quit using it after about 3 months looking for alternative methods, and then bought a cnc machine anyway. If you are really doing volume cutting, the cnc will pay for itself in efficiency saved on every job once you develop your skills. But we bought our slider a year later to over thr shortcoming of the cnc operations....so,where am I going with this? ?You already have a great slider, you just need to fine tune your setup accessories and approach to success. The saw alone wont win for you. It's akin to being an F1 driver, having a winning car, and just needing a pit crew. Dont be like Force India and bail out early.? You are currently more of a Renault trying to get past Red Bull. And in another year you might just be up there passing a Mercedes car.lol. 开云体育I would like to see a video of you having this problem. Honest to god, I am mystified at? your experience.? I know others
are too? So the video? might be? just the ticket to getting good
feedback.

do not have an auxiliary table. Well? That really? is an absolutely? necessary? component for panels. I almost didn't order one and my salesman took me to the wood shed and had a little chat with me and managed to help me understand that it was really? not optional. |
Well it is optional, i never used one or ever new about it in my younger slider days and had no issues, neither did the other 15 cabinet makers on the 3 - 10’ sliders.

HOWEVER, now that I have the parallel guide with table I may use it when cutting a large sheet Regards, Mark On Mar 27, 2020, at 11:38 AM, Cliff Rohrabacher, Esq. <rohrabacher@...> wrote: |
OP has not told us if he has an outrigger. I am hoping he does.

Hi Michael - I am new to sliders, I'm guessing you are as well. For panels, if you don't have the said aux tables or a 2nd hand, you have to be strategic in the the order of cuts and learn the limitations of the setup you have to minimize issues. For example, if I need to rip down 15" carcass sides from a 4x8', I rip at ~15.25" then do a finish pass after. I do that until I reach about half way into the sheet, then the sag problem becomes irrelevant and I rip at final width with just one pass.?
For cross cuts, I use fritz and franz on the right hand and upward pressure on the left under the panel, so that the panel rests flat on the slider table then push through with the right hand. I don't own any clamps right now, so it's my workaround and the cuts have been spot on.? I am not sure what size outrigger you have or the length of your slider, but more limits apply if you have shorter versions of these, especially for full sized panels.? The frustration will pass once you get a repeatable workflow going. I still have all my track saw stuff (55", 106" guides), but I haven't pulled it for breaking down panels since I started using the new saw.? Hope that helps.? |
