Profile 45 just stopped working

And another problem!
Had just run about 6m (20') of board through using the pf.? Everything singing and the board stopped moving spindle had also stopped.? No error messages showing.
Started machine up and it spun for about 30 seconds and stopped.
Screen working but no error messages showing.? Powered machine off for a minute and still screen but motors don't spin up.
All 3 phases working.
I've put a call in to the local agents, just waiting on a call back from their service dept.

Any ideas?
Cheers
David

I¡¯m not a Profile 45 user but if the spindle was indeed damaged by a loose head perhaps the machine has a sensor to indicate wobble on the spindle??

The pictures you sent do seem to show significant damage to the spindle. Perhaps it¡¯s not running true?

Thanks Andy
You may be correct, but 2 things.
1. There was no visible wobble or noise
and (the machine was just making a very nice purring sound when running and cutting)
2. it made a very clean cut.

Check with straight edge to identify and lump. Turn spindle on and touch up with emery cloth to clean surface up, and polishing with spindle runing with purple abrasive cloth ,?
Be conservative !

Check that the sliding cover over the spindle area (when the sliding table is retracted) is fully closed and that the micro-switch is engaged when it is closed. ?Does the yellow light come on when you put the machine in reverse direction spindle rotation mode? ? If not, then that micro-switch is not closed. ?

Before you do much more, you should ensure that you understand how to add enough space above the cutter stack for the top-cap to fully seat against and tighten down the tooling. ?Back in 2002, I spin-welded a cutter onto my first shaper spindle because there wasn¡¯t enough gap above the top bushing for the cap to fully compress the setup. ?By the time the machine shop got it pressed off, both the expensive cutter and the spindle were scrapped.

check everything, including air...?
not familiar with Felder but sounded like loose connection somewhere?
?

Thanks David
Angled sliding cover (between the sliding table and the machine is definitely in place.? There is a big red flashing warning on the screen when it is open.
The yellow light does illuminate when the machine is switched to reverse direction.
Reading of your mishap and learning experience back in 2002 helps me feel that if something like that happens to you, then it easier to accept I screwed up.

My best guess at the moment is that there is a problem with the VFD.? The machine stopped running halfway through running a 2.25+m (~7') board.? Having shut down the power several times on startup the spindle speed setting is back to 10000RPM and flashing (which I do not recall happening prior to today's issue).

The local agent has been very responsive.? A couple of phone calls today and I was checking and reporting on various things, but shortly after that they have a technician coming down from Auckland (2+ hour drive) tomorrow.??

Thanks Albert
(no air connected to the machine - but not for too long - as I do have Mac's clamps sitting next to the machine in their unopened box!)
Checked various things like the micro switch on the sliding door, if there were any thermal cutouts / reset switches etc, but found nothing out of place.? Activated the Estop and returned to normal, but sadly none of this allowed the motor to spin.

I think you are right the issue maybe to do with the VFD. There should be a tiny screen on the VFD, Are you able to see if there is any error code on the VFD¡¯s screen?

Felder¡¯s service and responsiveness in NZ has been very good, To have a technician sent down to you (and not local) on the next day is very impressive!?

Update:
Tech arrived and spent at least a couple of hours checking over the machine.
He found a PCB that ?checks motor speed wasn't working.
Now waiting for Felder to respond and see how long the part takes to be supplied.
Cheers
David

Update:
Apologies it has been a while for an update on my Profil.
The local agent swapped out the suspect hardware but there is still a problem.? The other issue now is the spindle now comes up to speed then stops after about 30 seconds.? A senior Felder tech was sent to the same issue happening on a similar model (somewhere in Europe) and they are working to resolve what they believe is a software issue.? (First time I've experienced a software "bug" in Felder's gear!)
Cheers
David

Dave just let you know that you are not alone in this, I had a slight software with my new panel saw when I first received it in July.

The issue was with the parallel fence, if I ask it to move 100mm, it will only move 78mm, however this was quickly resolved, all they needed to do was to plug in the parameters/setting from factory setting and its done, never had this issue again.?

It's been a while...
Profil 45 now working again.
Tech came again last week.? He was great.? Patient and thorough.? He finally found a contactor that had a burnt out actuator coil.??
What was happening was the system would spin up and then about 4 seconds later (when the power drive was activated) the shaper would spin down again.? No erorr message!
Cheers, David??
