Kappa 400 has arrived

Well after 8 months of waiting my new Kappa 400 X-Motion to arrive I got it commissioned by FELDER yesterday. Actually had two technicians do the commissioning, one was being trained. They did a great job and I was very pleased with the outcome. A friend of mine actually received the saw at his business and brought it over to my shop last week and set it in place for me. Friends with forklifts are a wonderful thing. Really looking forward to putting it to work tonight, I have been without a saw since last Jan. when I sold my K500. I took advantage of the downtime to reconfigure my shop in preparation for this day. Upgraded the lighting, had Phase Perfect unit installed and electrical run for the saw, had floors epoxy coated, cleared out many things that took up too much floor space and completely re-did my ductwork with new ducting from Blastgate Company.?

Once again beautiful shop and saw.

Electrical cabinet has a gasket, nice?. In the electrical cabinet, what is the purpose of what looks like shelving and partitions. Since everything is on DIN Rail, I can only imagine it is for wire management.

Wow JP,?

You must be stoked!?

Funnily enough I've ended up ordering a Kappa 400 X-motion too. It's funny how there's a few of us here that have ended up at the Kappa 400 after initially looking at 700 series machines. What was the decision making process for you to finally go with the Kappa?

What was the final spec you went with? It looks like you got the X-roll outrigger (as I have too). Did you get the length compensation? 3.2m slider??

As others have said, your shop looks great.?My workshop will be a similar size to yours I think, but a little smaller. I looks like the saw fits in very nicely.?

What is your planing and thicknessing setup? Are there more goodies on the way??

Cheers
Michael?

That is a beautiful saw indeed. I ordered a new K700 and I am stoked. I hope it doesn't take 8 months to get.?

On a different?note: talking about a blast from the past. I saw his post and had to write. Special shout out to John Renzetti. It's been over 20 years since I was on a Felder owners' group. Hey John, are you still making those great zero clearance inserts?

Hello Michael, ?my decision process was as I kept adding options to the K700 the pricing kept increasing to the point that it wasn't that much of a stretch to go with the Kappa 400 which gave me features I desired that weren't available on the K700. Also at my age I think this will be my last saw and I really didn't want any regrets. As to final specs attached are photos of the order, the buying process isn't very easy with Felder and they really don't do a good job of listing all the options available. I went with 2800mm slider, all digital crosscut stops, X-Roll for outrigger, Quik Lock and tool compartment for 5 saw blades. I had multiple conversations with my salesman that I wanted the Digi Compensation and was assured that it was included in the options I had chosen. When the Felder Tech was commissioning my saw I asked about the Digi Compensation and he said I didn't have it, he pointed out that my digital crosscut stop and angle display did not have the wording " Digi-compensation with the blue tooth icon in the top left corner of each display. I have called my salesman and included past email were I had discussed having it included, he is going to check into this further and get back to me next week, he said his computer system did not have an option to select to include it. Page 26 of the current catalog discuss the NEW: "digital-compensation plus" but doesn't list it as a machine option for the Kappa 550 or Kappa 400. I spent the day in my shop yesterday and so far I am extremely pleased with the saw as I get more comfortable with all my DRO features and totally like the motorized rip fence controlled by overhead display panel. Also I had some concerns about dust collection on this saw based on reports from several years ago but I am happy to report that I find dust collection quite good on my unit and equal to my expectations.?

Michael, forgot to address your last questions. My current planing & thicknessing setup is a Hammer A3-41, but thanks to PK and his videos on the AD941, I decided to order the AD941 with electronic height control and went with 3 phase 7.5hp motor now that I have a Phase Perfect converter. Hopefully it so be arriving next month. Other goodies? well based on advise here I purchased 3 Tenyru 300mm blades, Felder 400mm rip blade and Felder dado blade set. With all of this I am ready to settle down on purchases and get back to finishing up setting up my shop and making sawdust.

I just want to clarify one thing, perhaps specific to JP’s configuration. ?He opted to add the digital crosscut stop with the flipper on the right to his configuration, bringing the total number of crosscut stops to two units on the main fence, along with the digital stop for the telescoping extension. ?In that sense, his configuration is identical to mine as discussed here: ?

If you are thinking of ordering a machine with the X-Roll outrigger table and length compensation for the digital stops, there is one aspect you should know that is not documented or well known by the Felder sales team. ?If you order the digital stop with a right-flipper along with the length compensation upgrade, the right-flipper crosscut stop does NOT support length compensation tied into the X-Roll outrigger angle DRO - only the stop with the left-flipper on the main fence extrusion and the digital stop on the telescoping extension will have length compensation. ?

This has been thoroughly discussed in the past, but often overlooked.

I will have to second what David just discussed. I bought the third right hand stop and it does not digi compensate. I guess the Felder sales person I delt with did not know this among a few other little things I have discovered.
I have had my kappa commissioned twice and neither tech could get it to work. So it got shelved. David sent me his videos on how to get all the stops set up and calibrated and they are perfect and easy to do thanks to him.
I do want to add one thing. If you start his process and the settings don't reflect what he shows then the unit is set in German and needs to be set to English it is the last setting in the list "LAN" I believe with 1 for german and 2 for English, or visa versa.
So after a year of my third stop collecting dust on the shelf, It is now on my saw and working.
Thank you David best for getting me through that issue!
Also I am learning a lot more about my machines as time goes on and the issues I have, and will try to answer the best to knowledge , But David B. knows these machines pretty much inside and out and more than the Felder people in some cases.
He has been extremely helpful to me helping me out over the years.
Thank you David for that.
