¿ªÔÆÌåÓý? I recently completed the installation of a CF 741 combo machine with an AF 22 dust collector and piping.? This forum information was helpful in the general design but was not specific to the CF741.? I wanted to add these pictures as a suggested way to make the 5 connections to this machine. ? Below: Shows pant-leg chute connection of the 120mm lower saw port and the 50mm guard.? Hoses stay clear of the work area and off the floor. ? Below: Shows the 120mm hose connected to the jointer.? The pant-leg is rotated to keep the work area clear. The blast gate slide is closed on the unused small side of the pant-leg. Rotation of the pant-leg is allowed by the toggle clamp (nordfab) connection.? The mating rolled pipe ends were worked to be as round as possible.? Edges were ground smooth.? Rubber gasket was removed from the inside of the clamp.? The clamp was tweaked to be as round as possible then tightened the hold as firmly as possible but still freely rotate.? The ends of the legs are at about 7' off the ground so can be reached for rotating.? Bracing was added to the vertical pipe in the x and y axis for stability. ? In planer mode. ? ? In spindle molder mode with 80mm hose connection. ? ? Mortising mode. A 90 elbow would be helpful here. ? General notes on the system.? Pipe is 5" based on machine ports being mostly 120mm. The AF22 could use 6" but the additional cost/performance was not justifiable. This is a one-man shop so only one machine in use at a time. ? All spiral pipe up to the pant-leg chute for economy.? Clamp pipe after.? All openings fitted with manual gates.? System allows for future expansion of band saw and another piece tbd. It includes a floor sweep.? (something I have always wanted since 7th grade woodshop with Mr. Poole.? circa 1967) The dust collector is located next door in the sheep barn and remotely operated with an Ivac 240v and RF switch. ? ? The up-side is a quieter shop.? No clean-up when bag changing.? Planer shavings can be dumped directly on the ground. The down-side is that during winter, pellet stove heated shop air is pumped out when the system is running. Secondly, blast gates must be kept closed when not in use or the shop will smell like a ?sheep pen. ? ? We hope this info is helpful. ? Jonathan Smith ? |
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for taking the time to write this up. I have the same machine and have spent a lot of time thinking about dust collection for it - generally landing on your approach of having a drop come down above the table. I really like your solution with the rotating wye. Unfortunately my shop ceiling is about 7' so I don't have the ability to do that. Instead I ended up getting a large mobile dust collector and I have to move the hose (and/or the DC) whenever I switch functions. It's very annoying but works so far. You should also know I choked on my coffee when you mentioned "blast gates must be kept closed when not in use or the shop will smell like a ?sheep pen". Tim |
