"I would want to be able to take the guard off once in a while. If it was attached, it might be more work. But if you never take the guard off, then no problem. I like the idea of no cords on the floor."
Yes. That's the hitch with the permanent overhead guard system, and my saw will have the 30" or so rip capacity, limiting the space to the right of the blade a lot. Having the ability to take off the guard or, better yet, having a guard that suspends from the ceiling (and lifts out of the way), would be idea. But that seems to be a talk ask. Wires cominng down from above creates the same obstacle. MIne is a "hobbyist" shop, so to speak, not a professional operation.? |

Re: hinges of tool cabinet
Yes, I agree, most of the force is at the top of the hinge. My only experience with piano hinges is when I made some custom kitchen refrigerator doors with heavy stainless coverings. I used piano hinges and they have worked well for years but there is some wear in them at the top in the form of lateral play. These doors get used daily in a working kitchen so there is a lot of use. I expect one day they will break but it's been 7 years so far. The pins in piano hinges are a small diameter and so that is the weak point.

开云体育ABSOLUTELY.? There is a trick thoguh? It is Best to? purchase a
Rider? from your regular insurance company that specifically?
covers the machine? any repairs or complete replacement.? Such a
rider? doesn't have the? vague exclusions that? might? crop up
elsewhere.? It is only good for the one shipment and expires after
secure delivery I? tell people this anytime they will sit still and listen:? Call
your insurance agent or company and ask for a Rider.? Have your
paperwork? so you can talk intelligently.? If felder is shipping
the machine to you start the discussion there.??? If they are
covering the shipment they will be willing to document it for you.
You can drove yourself nuts trying to figure out who bears liability for an uninsured shipment? Bailor or Bailee? are? the terms of art in the law.? for the shipper and the carrier. The UCC is pretty clear
UCC 2-509, entitled “Risk of Loss in the Absence of Breach” provides, in pertinent part:
**** But??? the last thing you want is to spend 5 or 10 Grand?? on
legal fees to enforce your rights under the UCC? when a couple
hundred bucks? up front would buy the? insurance rider? to cover
the whole thing.

Re: Shipping, include insurance?
I would be very careful about reading the fine print of the insurance provided. My experience shipping a used machine that was badly damaged is the insurance only payed ten cents a pound on used machinery. Since then I have used door to door freight and fully insure everything.

Re: hinges of tool cabinet
开云体育The door is essentially a box, so he can hang tools on the inside of the door. So it’s a box that is 4.5” deep by the dimensions, instead of just a flat panel door.

开云体育Jeff, thanks for that great description-no need for photos now, it is just an interesting way to power the feed side of things-but obviously works. Colin ? Sent from for Windows 10 |
Re: Changing planer belt
I already reassembled things, but I'll try to snap a picture later.? I did take a look at it both engaged and disengaged before reassembling.? When disengaged the belt just runs between the motor and the cutter head in a tight loop.? When the power feeder is engaged the small wheel pushes the belt out into the larger drive wheel and the belt is a more triangular shape.

开云体育My saw and JP? have? power from over head.?? The power to the saw
comes down a concrete block? pillar in the middle of my shop? and
then over the several feet to the saw? following the DC ducting,

Re: hinges of tool cabinet
I used Lee Valley piano hinges on a tool cabinet I built a few years ago.? Both doors are 24" wide x 35" tall and 4.5" deep.? I believe they are the same hinges because they measure 1.5" open and are about 0.04" thick.?
After a few months the door that has the heaviest tools did sag a little.? The sag is enough to bother me because the two doors no longer line up.? I doubt if the door itself sagged.? The door's case is dovetailed, and the applied front is frame and panel? where the frame uses bridal joints and the plywood panel is glued in for strength. |
Re: Shipping, include insurance?
A lot of people think that once it is shipped it is the "receiver" who is responsible for damage, thus most commercial shippers ship that way (FOB or freight on board), and buyers often think that those terms are mandatory. The uniform commercial code "UCC" does NOT, however apply to consumers. It is a form of contract law that governs commercial businesses.
When there was unseen damage to my delivery from Felder they tried telling me that once they gave it to the shipper it was "my" property, which would be true if I was a business. However as a consumer I am not bound by that. They were not at all happy when I pointed this out. They ultimately made good on the delivery, and I don't honestly know if it was because of good customer service, or me calling their bluff. But, if you are not a commercial business be aware that you are not necessarily bound by those terms, then make a decision regarding insurance that best suits "your" needs. Damage by the shipping company is their responsibility, and damage due to improper packaging may be the responsibility of the seller. |

Re: Changing planer belt
开云体育Jeff that is great motor can now be moved to allow new belt install. Could you post 2 pictures, one with feed engaged and one with feed disengaged, it is a very interesting way to get power from motor pulley to cutter head drive belt to feed roller. Colin ? Sent from for Windows 10 ? |
