Veneer slicing jig for slider #sawmethods

Interested in setting up a jig to slice veneer and make edgeing?
from veneer. I¡¯ve seen a few setups but I¡¯m interested in what others are doing. Anyone rig up mac¡¯s clamps with a beam?

Thanks,
Jack

Thanks for the details. I have the cheapest 2¡¯x2¡¯ interlocking mats pretty much the entire shop except where machines are; bought from HF when on sale.

My vestil moves okay on these but your rubber mat appears better for a cart. They have proven to be surprisingly resilient. I remember when I had vestil loaded the caster left a depression but it recovered over time.

I guess, once these are spent I would look for mats like yours.

Right now the shipping is the same as the rubber rolls...

I bought them in 4' widths and 20 feet long.? They are amazing on my feet and my back.? They are very heavy and do not move.??

They are not strong enough to put under the major machines.? When I need to move a machine, I drag them out of the way or roll them back up.? Should be fun this year with some new machines coming.

Nice work Paul.

What is your floor covering? Looks like a cart may roll well and I assume it works as anti-fatigue too.

Wow PK, I¡¯m jealous both of your HS950 and of your drawers addition. Looks great, and very useful.?

FWIW, I bought my AD741 ~2000 model year for $4200, about half of original price.? One owner, very low hours (blades had never been changed), 20 years old, Felder system knives, AL, and Cast extensions, mobility kit.? ?HTH.

Hi. ?As well you can measure the difference of oil level when raised and lowered. ? Ie if it is 1 inch when lowered and 2 inch when raised then if it ever goes below 2 when in a raised position you know to add. ?From that point on you would only need to measure when it is in a raised position.

Re: Vestil Air-2000 Cart

Can you not jus raise and put a dipstick in opening for oil level, lower table and then raise table to look at dip stick. Dipstick would be as simple as a wire that is suspended sufficiently over opening.

Re: K500 considerations #whatmachinetobuy

Hi Melvin!?

For your table work, what is the longest material you normally process? Ultimately, I'd suggest to match the length of your slider to the longest material you generally work with, plus a foot or two. For instance, if you find yourself ripping 8' lumber on the saw, then you would necessarily have the space for 8'+ on the in-feed and out-feed side of the saw, which means you'd have at least that amount of room for the slider. If you think you have the space, I'd suggest 8'+ slider, unless you think you'll be exclusively working with smaller stock. Don't underestimate being able to rip on the slider.?

Bumping to a K(F)500 or 700 gets you into the X-Roll table, which will ultimately have more accessory options than the Hammer table.?

I have a KF700SP with the 3200 (10') slider, and I REALLY enjoy being able to straight-line rip 9' stock. Remember that you lose a few inches at either end of the slider to clamps, fences, etc...?

For the rip capacity, I started off with the 1250mm (49") rip capacity which is enormous, and took up a ton of space in my Shop. I ended up ordering the parts necessary to convert my machine to the 800mm (~32") rip configuration, and cut down the overhead guard to match. I still have the 1250mm parts, so when I go to sell someday the buyer gets to choose which configuration they want.?

For mobility, plan on getting a 21"x42" or 21"x48" narrow pallet jack.?

I'd suggest getting the heaviest duty machine possible (bump to a 500 or 700) and factory options in the initial order, as you can always add accessories after the fact.

Best wishes on your machine selection, curious to hear what you ultimately come up with.?

Re: Vestil Air-2000 Cart

Imran,

It is just a foot pedal. The cart comes with a large hoop handle but I haven't installed it yet. Some folks on the forum have said that they left theirs off...still contemplating if it will be in the way or if it will be a necessity.

Re: Vestil Air-2000 Cart

Larry,

Sorry for the obvious answer. I am not in shop but thought mine is attached with only a few screws. Being 1000 model, the top is only ~ 2¡¯x3¡¯.

I like your lift pedal, definitely looks industrial. Does it go out like in a pallet jack for hand use or still a foot pedal?

?Thanks, Imran but, man, I have to tell you...that top is heavy and I would almost rather drill an access hole than take the top off...especially with the manual saying that the oil level should be checked on a monthly basis. Mine is 1000 so a bit different. To answer your first question, I would do it by removing the top.

I did find a better manual online but still have several things that confuse me a little bit and was hoping that owners of this cart could answer my below questions/comments.

1) The manual says the following about checking the hydraulic fluid: "Confirm that the oil level is adequate, i.e. within 1" of the top of the reservoir when the lift is in the fully lowered position." With the platform lowered, I believe it is impossible to check the level. How do you all check it?

2) Bleeding the system: "With the platform fully lowered, locate the "air bleed screw". Loosen the screw with an approximately?1/2 turn counterclockwise. As soon as you have loosened the screw, slowly depress the foot pedal to force air?out of the pump chamber. Do not let go of the foot pedal. Tighten the air bleed screw to prevent air from?reentering the pump chamber." They mention an "air bleed screw" but the parts list does not show such a thing. Where exactly is this located?

Thanks for any assistance!
