Re: Sliding table saw for small work
Easy to make a F & F jig with accurate stops and there are several approaches. Instead of the standard T Track that Steve Rowe uses in the video I used the Incra track system with the Shop Stop which indexes every 1mm and is repeatable - which is useful as it allows you to go back to the same dimension quickly every time. On the rare occasion I need something that is midway between the digits (ie 35.4 for example) you can adjust the stops without upsetting the original setting. Parts are here ?for the 18 inch length

Re: Sliding table saw for small work
I recently came across this video:
This is a followup video from the guy who also has a video on how he makes his Fritz Franz jig. ?My first exposure to the Fritz Franz was when I visited Joe Calhoon, who also had the Mac Clamps. ? When I got my Martin saw, I got the Mac Clamps without delay, and I also got a parallel fence from Brian Lamb. ?On the Fritz Franz, I figured the one Scott was selling with the Martin name on it would be better than shop made: Now that I have had these things for awhile, I found that if I want to crosscut wood or cut down plywood, the accurate crosscut fence and the Mac Clamps work great. ?For ripping long boards that have a reasonable width, the addition of the parallel fence helps insure accuracy along the length of the cut. However, when it comes to ripping long or shorter more narrow boards, I do not think I have anything that appears to work anywhere near as well as the jig with the t-track that is in the above link. ?The expensive Martin Fritz Franz offers the option to secure the wood at any angle, and is nice for those who do not have Mac clamps for certain cuts. ?However, for ripping with 90 degree cuts (something I do way more often than angled cuts), you have to square the Martin sold jig, and you have no easy way of measuring the width of the cut (other than sliding the wood up to the blade and adjusting unless I am missing something) and insuring a parallel cut. ? Has anyone made and had experience with this jig or found a better option for these cuts or made any upgraded jig for this purpose with better stops etc. ? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI don¡¯t have the M18 Fuel, just a regular M18 drill and M18 impact. Very happy with both. Recently I picked up the M18 LED Search Light. It was ?$100. It doesn¡¯t come with batteries or a charger. I already have that stuff. It has three settings. I haven¡¯t put it to the test yet on how long a battery will last on a charge. Online reviews have been favorable. The light this thing puts out is impressive. I like Milwaukee ¡®s tools. They¡¯re not Festool, but they are so reasonably priced I think they are a great value. This is the DRO on my 2017 KF700sp, same as the DRO on David Best¡¯s Kappa
400. IMO, DRO is not very useful without micro adjustment. I use micro adjustment all the times to get to the exact spot, it would be very difficult or time consuming to do that without it. James On Sat, Jan 13, 2018 at 12:56 AM vnh84@... [felder-woodworking] < felder-woodworking@...> wrote:

Re: KF 700 SP options
Glen get the basics so you can get the machines setup. Keep it simple to start, most Felder blades work really well and will get you started and are typically easy to aquire. If you want some wacky Japanese blade that takes six months get and you have sell your firstborn to buy it can wait. Most saw/shaper tooling on your side of the border is available next day and can be acquired as needed IMHO Felder 12" rip,? Felder 12" crosscut. It will crosscut both hardwood and veneer stock. use scoring with veneer, I've also in a pinch ripped hardwood, cut melamine with scoring, no chipout Felder Dado set? 200mm. I've used this unit and it performs great and can be used to setup shaper with 30mm spindle. It will cover 90% of all dado and grooving needs that are typically encountered. Another blade is Leitz 12" Glueline, that again IMHO is a superior performer. On Sat, Jan 13, 2018 at 1:40 AM, GLEN chris3645@... [felder-woodworking] <felder-woodworking@...> wrote:

Re: KF 700 SP options
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis is indeed confusing and news to me if they¡¯ve changed the digital stop configuration when applied to the 700-series machines. ? Felder is always changing things without telling anyone outside the employee group, so I wouldn¡¯t discount what Liz says or the photos in the catalog, but I would verify the information. ? I will offer the comments that the photo of the 700-series digital stop (page 47) is identical to the stop on my Kappa except it has no micro adjust and the locking element (kip lever in the photo) is different from the knob on top of my digital stops. ? This could be a cost saving approach for digital stops on the 700-series - to eliminate the micro-adjust. ? The fence extrusion itself in the reference photo looks to be the same as the one on the Kappa, but there isn¡¯t enough shown to know for certain. ?To be sure, the micro-adjust adds expense, and while I use it occasionally, I don¡¯t find it a ¡°must have¡± thing - easy enough to bump the stop into the desired position IMO. ? If the photo represents ¡°truth¡± I¡¯m not sure it matters much except that the micro-adjust is missing. ? I seriously doubt the fence extrusion is different, and the width of the stops with the Kipp lever sticking out the left side is probably similar to the stops with micro-adjust on that side. Felder sends a power point presentation to their field sale reps regularly updating them on new machines and the details of equipment changes. ? I have repeatedly asked for this information to be made available to the cognoscenti within the user community, but the response is has been identical to my charge to John Renzetti to opine on the topic of moving FOG to a new platform - meaning silence. ? You might ask Liz to send you a copy of the field update presentation that discusses the digital fence differences - I¡¯ve asked for this in the past and when a sales situation demands it, they have complied with copies of the sales update presentations. ? ?I have found that saying something like ¡°this sale hinges on XYZ, and I won¡¯t be making a decision until I receive documentation about that point¡± brings response - not always completely forthcoming, but quicker than just asking for clarification. ?? As a corollary to this factual fog bank, I recently I ordered a new Lexus SUV custom build (thanks to Lucky again for raising the bar), and I had to put stop payment on the deposit check to get an answer to ¡°what exactly is included in the ¡°towing package¡± option that costs $150?¡± ? Before I took that action, I kept getting what I felt were uninformed answers designed to quell objections rather than answer the specifics. ? The sales people kept giving me their personal speculation about what it is, rather than digging into the facts at corporate. ? David Best

I am following your venture here. I am where your at.. make choices. I can tell you without the people here I would have made some bad decisions. I have learned more from this forum than anywhere else. David Best and many others here know there stuff. some day I will too, but for now these guys helped me greatly in deciding what i wanted to buy and needed. I am at the point of you maybe, time to buy the stuff for the machines. Blades, Cutterheads, ect. My machines are here on pallets and I need to figure out some tooling before commissioning. This will be an interest part of the project. Glen ? -----Original Message----- From: mfsta2lt@... David's explanation is the best I have ever seen. I think what you really have to ask your self is what type of work are you going to do with it and will it help that process? Projects in my shop seem to always be one offs where nothing ever fits any standard not have any repetition. This type accessory I think is very nice but for my work it would be a complete waste of $$. YMMV. Good luck making your final choices. I am on a quest to figure what blades to buy...

Re: KF 700 SP options
Liz Rogers directed my attention to the digital stops and cross cut fence option for the Felder 700 series machines today.? She noted that the setup that is paired with the Kappa series is different from the setup that is paired with the 700 series machine.? I went back to check Felder's website, catalog, and my quote.? Sure enough, I am seeing confusing data.
Page 28 of the current PDF catalog (available online, labeled catalog 2016) pictures the stops that match the ones photographed by David Best.? Same one as pictured on Felder's page for the KF 700 SP and K 700 S. Page 47 of same catalog shows a different picture of the digital stop for the K 700 series machine.? The black knobs of the digital stop of the Kappa saw are not pictured.?? I then checked my quote's picture of the digital stop.? It is the same as the one on page 47. To add more to the confusion.? Felder's webpage for the KF 700 SP pictures the digital stop on page 28 (same as the one David has for his Kappa), NOT the one on page 47 or in the PDF quote I received.? ? I have seen videos of the Kappa series digital stops in operation, both from Felder and from David.? I have not seen the one associated with the K 700 series saw.? Or maybe I just missed the difference all together!?? Looking at the picture on page 47 of the catalog and in my quote PDF, I don't see how the digital stop can be micro adjusted similarly to the Kappa's.?? Has anyone recently took delivery of a K 700 series digital stops?? Can you post some pictures?? Are the digital stops different from the Kappa's?? Does Felder really make two versions of this accessories for the two respective saw classes??? Confused... |

Re: KF 700 SP options
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat video illustrates the use of the precision miter guide well, but keep in mind, the crosscut fence being used on this K700 saw is the non-digital (i.e. Analog) fence, and it¡¯s easier to position for angled cuts than the much heavier and completely different clamping system on the digital crosscut fence. ? I think the precision miter guide can function will (if your application would benefit from it) with the conventional non-digital crosscut fence. ??If you move up to the digital crosscut fence, it¡¯s best paired to the X-roll outrigger table on the Kappa series, and not so easy to employ with the precision miter guide. ? The X-roll outrigger table is was precisely introduced to aid in the miter positioning of the heavier digital crosscut fence, as well as to provide infinitely adjustable angle setting with precise DRO readout. ? You can see how the X-roll outrigger table (terrible name - should have been ¡°Mitering Angle Assistant¡± or such) in this video at precisely 1:54 tp 1:58, then the video confusingly switches to the precision miter guide unit: ? You can also see the X-Roll outrigger table in this video (on a Kappa 550 with motorized crosscut stop positioning fence which has to be 80 pounds) between 5:00 and 6:00 David Best

Re: KF 700 SP options
This is a very good Felder video demonstrating the technique using the slider, you can find the use of miter index at around 7 minute. I have the miter index with length compensation. It is accurate, but not very easy to use as David Best explained. If you watch Steve Rowe¡¯s YouTube video about his Martin outrigger table, it is the best in the world, of course pricy. James James

My guess is that the pictures are treated as attachments and as such, they are not permitted according to the statement on the group's homepage.? "Attachments are not permitted."? Consequently, they are replaced in the body of the msg by placeholder tags [image#.jpeg].?
I have looked at the "Photos" section of the group.? Some of the photos, without caption (or description), are not very useful.? For someone who comes after the pertinent discussion when the photos were uploaded, I have no clue what I would be looking at sometimes.?? |

Re: M18 FUEL? SURGE? 1/4" Hex Hydraulic Driver
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGreetings? I did pick up the Milwaukee fuel surge a few weeks ago and it is rad ,,,lots of snuff if needed it has four settings three for different torque settings and one for drilling. I have used on low setting for electrical panel work and in 3 have driven a ?bunch of 3" to ?5" screws and some bolts and the hydraulic drive is very easy on my arm the noise and hammering vibration.? My 25 mo old grand son loves it ! They are 130.00 bucks ?and I got a 5 amp battery for 100.00.? The drill in ?front is my old one and I know I ?have driven 20,000 to 30,000 2 to 4" screws in the last 6 years so she is tired but I still use .
