Re: Felder bf6-31 table top alignment?

If you lift the jointer table up you can see two large bolts where it is fixed to the hinge mechanism. The table has oval slots in that location, so there is room to nudge it back into alignment with the saw chassis. But before you do that it mght be a good idea to take careful measurements from whatever reference surface you can use to ensure the outfeed table remains flat and parallel to the infeed once adjusted.

As it is now there will be an approximately 4¡± zone (at approximately 13¡±+/-) where the rip fence cannot straddle the gap between the tables.

Re: Felder bf6-31 table top alignment?

Sorry John Just saw your replies. Not sure about the splitter yet, it seems ok but I have not checked it with anything as I have bigger problems.?
Thanks for all the help/suggestions. Got a few hours over the passed few nights mess with it a little. I squared up my fence to the front of the table and indicated off of that. At 90 was 3 thou wider at the back. At 45 it was off a lot more than that and was tighter at the back. I moved the fence to recheck it tonight after moving the trunnion a bit and found what I think is a bigger problem. The dovetail on the front of the saw top is a heavy 1/16" in front of the jointer planer dovetail. In the picture below the jointer is on the towards the bottom and saw table towards the top. I have not fully checked the jointer calibration yet other than jointing some boards and everything came out straight and square. The previous owner said he had not touched the outfeed of the jointer and judging by the paint/bolts that appears true. It looks like I have a little clearance room between the cutterhead and jointer bed to move it forward but was really hoping not to mess with that. Anyone dealt with this/have suggestions? I drove from NY to PA with this, about 4hrs, I imagine something moved just not sure where to start the check.
Thanks in advance for any help at all,
Adam

Hi all.

I¡¯ve been trying for months to decide on a surface finish for the paneling of a spa room. I was at the Portland (OR) Japanese Garden last week and saw an interesting treatment on an exterior door that I think would work beautifully. However, I¡¯m not clear on how they achieved the look and would love y¡¯all¡¯s advice. (Photos of the door are included below.) It kind of looks like they used a scrub plane across the grain, but the varying widths of the cuts has me in some doubt.?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.?

Re: One dust collector to rule them all?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

HI Albert:

?

Thanks for your comments. I didn¡¯t catch whether you had success or problems with the hydrovane? My hydrovane, like the screw, needed to be run continuously.

?

I understand you have a Nederman S750 and are very happy with it. I just looked it up online and the machines on offer look very interesting. A couple of questions:

?

  • Do you have the shaker cleaning option? Whether you do or not, I wonder how the Nederman goes with wide belt dust?
  • I see that the shaker cleaning option can only be operated (manual, mechanical or automatic) while the machine is stopped. I like to run my machines for hours at a time, and the RL250 cleaning cycle might kick in every 15 to 20 mins depending on what I¡¯m doing during that time. Is it normal to have to power everything down in order to ¡°clean/shake¡± a dust extractor? Is this an advantage of the RL units, or in fact one of its downfalls?
  • The Nederman runs the extracted material through the impeller, while the RL¡¯s impeller is after the filters. I don¡¯t know which is preferable in terms of extraction capability although I love not having to worry about chunks of timber or foreign material damaging my impeller.
  • I see there are bag, barrel and bin options for the Nederman. Which do you have and which do you recommend?

?

Bottom line: I¡¯d love to hear more about the day to day living with a Nederman.

?

Regarding air compressors¡ Another point I failed to mention for the benefit of others considering hydrovane or screw compressors: I live in sub-tropical Brisbane in Australia. It is not quite as humid as Hawaii, but relative humidity is generally high. That must play a role in how much water gets into the oil of these compressors and needs to be ¡°burned off¡± with continuous or near-continuous run times. I wonder whether a hydrovane or screw compressor would last a lot longer with intermittent use if located in an area of low relative humidity?

?

Warm regards,

Lucky

Lucky,?
I had Hydrovane before, and my current compressor is a 7.5kw silent piston compressor by Chicago pneumatics, I think I had it more than 5 years now. minimum maintenance needed.?

I didnt touch screw compressor cos I know I dont have the continuous needs of air - for screw compressor they NEED to be run continuously..?

going back to the dust extraction, my current extractor is a Nederman S750. very happy with it.?

I can vouch for the mobility kit. I have it on my AD941 It works well and does not raise the tool significantly to alter its center of gravity in the rest position. The move is very easy because of the large single wheel, which is often the biggest problem with casters on machine tools -- ie. if the wheel diameter is too small, moving the machine over bumps or concrete joints requires more effort.?

Jonathan,

?

For the crosscut fence, I think the following solution is very decent. It mounts the magnetic?tape on the back of the crosscut fence. You can print the holder if you have the 3D printer or have someone print it for you. Or just use plywood to make it.

?

To adapt the DRO, you basically add the DRO display on the movable stop, point the sensor of the DRO to the magnetic tape, that is it.

I found the store sells the M503 with many positive reviews, all the reviews are from foreign buyers. I am sure most buyers do not bother to post the review.

I received the new M503 with magnetic?tape, well packed. The M503 DRO also works with the magnetic tape on my Felder crosscut fence.

MA503/2-0001 - $579.40/ea

MA504/1-0001 - $326.70/ea (alternate to above has display for fractions)

MS500H-0001? - 307.70/ea

MB500/1-0019 - 325.20 for 3m of scale

Here is Siko website:

I have no idea what you received from Ali Express. If you are lucky a new unit that someone had laying around. Or it could be a salvaged unit from a machine or worst case a counterfeit, as one cannot buy a DRO of this type/class from a reputable source for that price.

The only thing I do not like is the cable is too long, I need to shorten it, not so easy to do if you do not have the right tools. I did not find the DRO with the short cable though.

Besides, you cannot turn it off like it is mentioned in the youtube video. The manual says two batteries will last a year.
