What year and model machine is it from? I¡¯m looking at buying a new kf700sp so wondering if it would work. Could you also tell me ur location and rough dimensions? Want to see shipping costs. For Sale:Felder Tilt Bracket and Power Feeder Lift
i have a Felder Tilt Bracket (like new) and complete hardware to install the gas strut lift. Both available for $175 + shipping.
the tilt bracket came from FOG member Mike H is available $50 which is what i paid for having it shipped to me. $125 for the gas strut hardware and custom bracket. you can pick from the two custom brackets. one has an imperfection that you can see better by zooming in. they are 3/8¡± steel, primed and all holes are tapped. imran |
Re: Would you buy a combo Shaper/Saw?
Lifting and lowering the heavy power feeder (F48) is not fun and a safety hazard until I installed the gas strut on my KF700sp. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNo. I am too. old to lift the power feeder and set up with the cast iron fence is tough as well. It seemed a good idea at the time.?? CHS Sent from my T-Mobile 4G LTE Device |

Re: K975 under table dust extraction problem.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI can report having resolved my under table K975 hose problem by using 4¡± diameter flexible hose that compresses along its length by 50%.? This contrasts markedly with the hose I have from Felder which is of the heavier type and which compresses very little along its length ¨C perhaps an inch per foot.? Without this feature there is much distortion of the hose when the saw is moved from 45deg to 0deg.? I cannot explain why others, Lucky excluded, seem not to share this problem which involves the hose separating from the saw unit when angled.? ? In Imran¡¯s case his pics show considerable longitudinal compression but how David Best has managed I know not. Perhaps the Felder hose specs have changed over time? I found that a 38¡± length of hose does the trick although with moderate ¡°S-bending¡± at 0deg which will no doubt hasten the decay of the plastic.? Phil? |

I don't know that I would call it de-rating, more like up-rating. They have a 3hp motor, but sell it as a 4 or 5hp motor under certain operating conditions. Like I have always maintained it's more of a marketing gimmick than anything.

Brian,
¡°the S1 3hp motor is the same as a S6 4hp motor¡±
i have read this before. i believe this means that a 4hp motor can be sold as s6 or as derated 3hp-s1.
i can see the 3hp-s1 derating work in an application like a compressor where the manufacturer knows that load will not exceed 3hp but how does it work when load is user controlled and in many cases impossible to
know, e.g. sawing.
maybe, the derating of motors is only done in applications with known load. i would think dust collector is such application. max load of unrestricted operation is hard to exceed.
just thinking.

Re: Would you buy a combo Shaper/Saw?
I have a KF700SP saw/shaper in a double car garage workshop.? Saw/shaper combo is a compromise for sure, the changeover is definitely a hassle,?I really hate it.? I will never buy a saw/shaper combo if space is not the issue. Martin has the J/P combo, but does not sell saw/shaper combo, this tells you something. James ?? Re: Would you buy a combo Shaper/Saw?
I¡¯m in a basement shop(not a lot of space) and I have a KF700. For me, it would be a struggle to fit a stand ?alone shaper in addition the slider. It is a PITA to switch modes¡ªmove the big overhead saw guard out of the way, remove the blade and riving knife because they stick 1/4¡± above the table, lift the shaper fence onto the saw, Tilt the comatic feeder into place, sometimes take the outrigger off, and switch the DC hoses. It¡¯s really not a big deal if you then use the shaper for a huge batch of parts. I recently did a ton of hemlock shiplap for a timberframe ceiling, and I had no problem doing all of the above for that project. I used the shaper for probably 6 hours on that run of parts. Where it becomes annoying is when you want to make two rebates in a cutting board for handles, or you are making 4 tenons. Stuff where you spend more time setting up the machine changeover and back again than you do making the parts. However, all that said I do not regret the purchase. I think saw/shapers retain less value on the used market(see above for reasons why) and I feel that I paid an aggressive price for my machine. I easily paid the same or less for the combo machine as I would have for one of the similar vintage/condition 700 series separates. If you are tight on space and budget, I¡¯d rather have the option to annoy myself for ten mins and have a quality shaper than not have that option.? Re: Would you buy a combo Shaper/Saw?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI had a 3 car garage shop and the only way to fit a slider big enough to process 4 by 8 sheets was to get a combo.? I moved from separates where I never had to move anything to a combo saw/shaper where I also had to move the drum sander and planer to use them. ?I would do it again to get the sliding saw and I am a shaper guy.? The slider is that worth it.? Having said that I just moved into a large shop, I don¡¯t even had the wiring and duct work done, and I¡¯ve already bought a stand alone Felder shaper so I don¡¯t have to deal with the combo. ? Re: Would you buy a combo Shaper/Saw? - NO
I make furniture for a living. My shop is a coop with 3 other full time builders, and a couple hobbyists. We have 2 KF700's with 80" sliders. One is often setup with a pattern cutter for template shaping. We also have a 10' stroke Panhans, and a Sawstop. No stand alone shaper here and it's never been an issue. Obviously our situation is unique, but I find that the? saw shaper combo isn't a huge compromise. Even before the current redundancy, I could manage with good work flow. I can always cut another part on the bandsaw for example if one went awry. I usually make a few extras anyway.

Re: Would you buy a combo Shaper/Saw?
I once had a Knapp JP and Saw-Shaper in a 2 car garage. ?Moved the equipment to a larger space. ?I experienced ownership of this equipment in both shops. ?I now still have a JP, not Knapp, instead of separates, but a separate saw and shaper, and I would never want a Saw-Shaper again. ?Too much hassle with setup, at least for me. ?It is really a personal preference and priority issue as to how you want to use your space. ?For me, the shaper fits nicely next to a router table so the infeed for one is outfeed for the other. ? I have read posts about ditching the router table and just use the shaper for everything, but not so sure that would work for me. ?Went to cut a small chamfer on smaller stock and set up the shaper with the variable angle cutter to 45 degrees, then found that the fence could not be easily setup to avoid the stock being drawn in without an aux fence, and I though, I should just do this on the router table. ?I was making the cut 60 seconds later. ?If I want to make a roundover on smaller pieces, or through dovetails with my modified Keller jig, I like the router table. ?I would love to think the router table is not needed, but at least for me, I am not there yet. |
