ride, pls - Re: [fahc] July 3rd Wednesday social hike - Ester Dome
Hi there! - my SUV is having issues. Can someone please pick me up if I drive to the parking pullout area (between the UAF botanical gardens and Sheek Creek Road) where the walkers and XC skiers park? I'd appreciate a ride up the hill for our walk. I can be waiting there around 6:40. Hike tomorrow (Saturday, June 25) 2
Carol & I are hiking granite tors on Saturday . Meeting at the parking lot at 10 am. This is about a 15-16 mile hike so it will be all day , or one can go up to the Lizzards eye & turn around there. I think we will be traveling counter clockwise through the trail. Bring a lunch , rain coat in case it gets stormy , water , mosquito repellent..& if you have bear spray , bring that too. This hike is listed in Kyle Jollys ' outside in the interior' for a description. Page 74. Meet at the Granite tors parking lot at 10 . This is in the chena recreational area. Friendly dogs are welcome to come too ? PS¡it is a pretty rigorous hike in terrain and distance. You may want to check your email or Facebook before heading out to see if anything has changed (cancellation due to smoky conditions, etc). Bring a lot of water; it¡¯s expected to be a very warm day last time I checked conditions.

Run or walk in the Race Against Racism 2
Hello Hikers, May I humbly ask that you consider joining us tomorrow evening, June 14 at the J.P. Jones Center. After a two-year gap, the Race Against Racism is happening again. We last ran the race in 2018 and 2019, and had a lot of people walk the course. If you decide to run it, you will find it flat and easy. There is a lot of fun to be had by walking through neighborhoods on a June evening. But more importantly, there is a great Fairbanks history lesson as you pass by important landmarks that remind us of the contributions of people of diverse backgrounds. It is not a fundraiser; it is a consciousness-raiser. There is even a sort-of-scavenger-hunt option for finding all the landmarks. Challenge the kids with this match game! Please register for the race here: https://www.runningclubnorth.org/product/race-against-racism-6-14-2022/#gform_6 or pass this on to friends who are interested. Thank you for indulging me. Hike, Hamburger and Music Tomorrow 2
We will meet at the Golden Eagle Saloon in Ester at 1:30 pm tomorrow (Sunday). The hike will require a shuttle, so we will then drive to the trailhead. The hike will start at Ester Dome Road and Henderson Road. We will then hike down to Ester, have a beer, cook a burger, and then listen to music by locals. Hikers are welcome to hike back up ester dome, but should know the trail. This is an easy hike; plan on about 1.5 hours. It is always a popular and fun hike.

Hike Tomorrow
I haven¡¯t been on this trail for quite a few years and would like to check it out. We are meeting on September Court tomorrow at 12 noon. Take Pandora to Pine Wood to Green Leaf to September Court. Pandora Rd is about 1.8 miles from Vallata. I can meet anyone at Vallata if they want to carpool. Since we are parking in a small neighborhood on the street, I¡¯d like to minimize the number of vehicles. Plan on about 2 hours. It¡¯s not a difficult trail, pretty flat if I remember correctly. Volunteer
The 5K Mosquito Meander run/walk this Saturday is a fundraiser for RCPC (Resource Center for Parents and Children; where Peggy works). They are looking for about 9 volunteers to work the race. I am holding a sign at one of the mile markers, cheering on the walkers and runners. We are meeting in the front parking lot at Pioneer Park Saturday at 8 am, working until 1 pm. As a big bonus, they are feeding all the volunteers after the race. If you are interested in volunteering, text Peggy at 907-590-2868.

Fw: [fahc] Lower Chena Dome trail Dayhike.
This hike is Tomorrow, the 5th of June and meets at 11:30 at the trailhead as described below. From: John Risser Sent: Saturday, June 4, 2022 15:44 To: FAHC list Subject: [fahc] Lower Chena Dome trail Dayhike. Sorry for the late notice Last Friday evening Jenny and a small group left the upper trailhead to hike the entire loop to the lower trailhead. We¡¯re hoping to meet them as they¡¯re on the way down. Distance is TBD. 49.4 mile CHSR Group ¡¤ Members of Fairbanks Area Hiking Club Fan Page Where: Meet at the trailhead on Chena Hot Springs Road. Go past the entrance to Angel Rocks, over the bridge and take the first left. This is a no fee parking area! What: We'll hike up the lower side of the Chena Dome Trail to meet Jenny and her intrepid crew who have been hiking the entire loop since Friday evening. They will be tired and sore and happy to see friendly faces. This hike has more switchbacks and is not as aggressive as last Monday's hike on the Upper trail. There WILL be mosquitos especially on the first few miles before we start climbing up out of the river valley. The weather will be very much like it is today. Bring more water than you think you'll need, and don't forget to bring some for your dog as well. There is a spring at about 2 miles in, but in all the decades I've hiked this trail I've only found water there once, so don't count on it.
