FA-VA6 as a successor to FA-VA5
Hello everyone,
? things are progressing fast! I am happy to announce that there will be a successor to the FA-VA5, the FA-VA6. ?There is a detailed article about the FA-VA6 in the German magazine Funkamateur 05/2025 (and a second part will follow 06/2025). ? Let me give you a quick summary on changes and new features. The FA-VA6 is a complete hardware and software redesign, keeping FA-VA5 good things and introducing exciting new things: ? - Sunlight readable (1000 nits) 320 x 240 IPS TFT display - Professional silicon rubber keypad 4 x 4 - Soft power on / off (10 years standby) - STM32 ultra low power processor STM32U575, 32 MBit EEPROM - 16-bit parallel display bus for up to 120 Hz frame rate - 12 hours continuous measurement with full display brightness - Extensive protection and charge control for 18650 industry batterie (Panasonic NCR18650BD) - USB-C and keeping BNC connector - 1 GHz frequency range, keeping FA-VA5 signal chain with significant improvements - S11 dynamic range (noise) 10 kHz - 200 MHz: > 82 dB, 200 MHz - 600 MHz: 69 dB (11 dB improvement), 600 MHz - 1 GHz 57 dB - Same form factor and aluminum enclosure as FA-VA 5 - Keeping Buzzer, TCXO, DG8SAQ PC software usage etc. - Very powerful firmware including time domain measurements (TDR) and all modes from FA-VA5, cable applications ? It will be available as a 99 % ready kit: - 99 % fully assembled and tested PCB - Aluminum enclosure - 18650 battery for domestic delivery (we are still checking international delivery for 18650, not easy...) - Factory calibration, measurement protocol - High quality storage case - High quality USB cable - Simple do-it-yourself SOL BNC kit - Solder the battery holder and some screws - that¡¯s all! ? Currently we are in the process of finalizing the firmware and testing the final PCB. Availability is planned for mid of July. Preorder is possible at www.box73.de (Funkamateur shop). ?
Some more information will be available on my website and here in the forum after FA-VA6 availability. But now, we are busy with keeping the dates¡? ? I really would like to thank everyone for previous discussions and I hope that you will love the FA-VA6! ? Regards Michael DG5MK |

The site offered "Invoice" for registered users, so I tried that. They confirmed my order, with the request that I pay within 7 days of receiving the item. Curious. Shall see how it goes, I have no issue with paying before it ships if that is requested later.
Now to see what the tariffs will be on my end. What fun....

I would love to order one, please add an English version or ordering help guide. There are many of us in the international group that would wish to order I suspect. Colin ZL2FL On Sat, 3 May 2025, 03:29 Wes WB7BR via , <wesbflyer=[email protected]> wrote:

Note that there is a banner now that says that today was a German bank holiday and Christian will be off for the rest of the week.
So if you sent questions, don't be surprised if you don't get a response this week, have patience. I expect Christian to be overwhelmed when he gets back next week (the reason he is only reachable by phone some hours of the day is to have time to "get work done"). Be patient. I have found Christian's customer service among the best of the world. But it is one person, and he deserves vacation too. Geert Jan |
