Tranny oil/engine oil/ leaking into coolant

marymau1 <[email protected]>

3 weeks ago the coolant light was on. It was discovered to have
transmission oil in the coolant container. They replaced the
transmission cooler, completed transmission service and flushed
coolant, and replaced coolant resivior. Friday, the same light came
on, they just called me and told me it is now "engine" oil in the
coolant. This sounds strange to me. Is it possible they repaired the
wrong thing 3 weeks ago? The first time the coolant stuff was much
thicker, and more orangy, than this time. They are now trying to
diagnose the exact problem, and will call me later today. If anyone
can think of some questions for me to ask, I certainly would
appreciate it. TIA Mary

Dear Mary,

Who is doing these strange things to your Eurovan? A VW dealer or other shop? What year vehicle do you have?

At this point I think you need a really good coolant system flush, an oil change and flush, and a transmission system flush.

With all of the proper fluids in their proper places people can start to do some analysis of what is going on.

With coolant in the oil you have the symptoms of a blown head gasket in the engine. In those situations or suspected situations I would recommend an oil sample to be taken and sent for analysis. Your situation sounds so strange I don't really know what you would analyze, except that as soon as possilbe I would be trying to get the wrong fluids totally out and the right ones in, and I don't mean next week, or next month.
