Just bought a 93 EV MV. There's a rocker switch with an orange light

You must have the automatic transmission. That switch causes a change in the
A/T program to Sport which affects when the transmission shifts. "S" is
particularly good when riding in in-city traffic and on hills.

That is your retro rockets switch. Turn it on, mash the long pedal and hold
on!

The "S" dash switch controls the shift control points in your automatic
transmission. In town with the "S" light on you should notice the upshift
point is at higher rpm accelerating and the downshift is also at higher
rpms. I may also suggest not flipping the switch during heavy throttle
application as an abrupt possibly damaging shift may occur.

I use the "Sport" mode all the time. Having added a VDO vacuum gauge
in-line with the vacuum signal from the MAP sensor to the ECU, I have
learned to drive by using RPM, vacuum, and speed as inputs.

For example, when merging with traffic, I use the extra RPM (= little
more HP) to get me in with traffic. For those times when I don't
need to come up to speed as fast, I don't toggle the S switch - I
ease off the throttle a bit to get the vacuum signal above 10" at 45
MPH for a split second and the transmission shifts to 4th gear.

I gotten used to doing this and almost do it without looking at the
gauge. I found using the gauge has helped me to get less variability
in fuel economy, or about a better ~1/2 MPG on the average.

Jerry
PS If anyone is interested in a pic, email me and I'll send you one
so you can see where I mounted it in the dash. I'm still trying to
find a good looking pod that will hold 3 gauges so I can mount all of
them on the top (and middle) of the dash. If anyone out there knows
of one, please reply against this thread!
