Maximum Photo Size

I recently sent an email to the group with a photo - the photo was about 2400x1900 pixels and 8MB in size. I know people are on this email list with slow/limited connections, and that size is too big.

However, it looks like Groups.IO automatically resized the photo down to about 500 pixels. In my opinion, this is too small to be useful.

I feel like the resizing was more generous in the past.

If this is adjustable, can this be set a bit higher, say 1024x1024?

Mike

The max photo upload size is limited to a 2k res in the largest dimension. That’s plenty large enough for screens or small prints. There may be some other downsampling going on that I’m not aware of though.

If it was within a post, those are resized to 600 max for online display. If they're uploaded to the Photos section, they may be resized based on group settings.

Did this change recently? ?For example, an email I sent June 27th included an inline PNG file, which was allowed through at 1280 pixels height.

No, it's been 640x640 for at least 3 years. The one you linked to was an attachment, so only shown as a thumbnail. Clicking on it results in it being shown the size as stored. An embedded/inline image, such as the one in this message, is automatically resized to fit the 640 dimension.
