Is Satellite radio worth it?

A friend of mine had XM, but for my choices in music and news, Sirius seemed to have more variety, so I went with Sirius.

were buying or leasing a new car, what about the sat radio other than stations would be important??? Thinking caps please.................................I am an Audi Brand Specialist. I rank at 84 in a total of about 170. That does not mean to much in the grand picture of life but..............I do get to drive all the cool cars before you;) So as a ABS audi has asked me to voice my -our- opinion about this sat radio biz. Nice that they remembered my name but on the other hand now I have to speak like someone is listening. Marty S. Greg Maxwell wrote: Sirius for the NPR feeds. |

Does the Sirius have to be installed where the radio is? I have a radio/GPS system and wouldn't want to give that up, but I sure would like Sirius.

I guess I think we should have a choice in which system we purchase built in to our vehicles if thats not available then how about an aux. input so we can add our system of choice after market with out voiding the warranty. The integrated navigation communication and entertainment systems are interesting but I would like a Choice in my entertainment even if its not available in the operating system of these systems. Go to the Sirius and XM web sites and look at the channel offerings.
If you're interests are very far off top 40, they don't have much to offer. I personally like folk music and after looking at the web sites decided to go for a MP3 player instead. --- In ev_update@y..., "KP" <kaveh@o...> wrote: With all the travelers on this list, I would guess there would be acouple who have satellite radio. I considered Satellite radio for the van. A buddy of mine has one in his house for BBC shows and it is excellent. I discovered that while Sirius carries NPR, it doesn't include Morning Edition or All Things Considered! That's a deal breaker for me.

I've gone entire states without any NPR. Occasionally, you will get a public radio station that is broadcasting local programming or classical music instead of NPR or PRI. There is only one constant in radio: anywhere you go in the USA, you will be able to hear country music and Christian talk. Yes, we have NPR and PRI out West - at least in the major cities in California.
I'm leaning more towards MP3 for music - all my personal choices, depending on where I am - kindof like 'theming' the drive. Jazz in the desert, bluegrass in the hills, surf-music by the beach, and rock in the cities (for example). For news and NPR-type programming I'm using internet, and believe-it-or-not, shortwave for more 'independent' programming. I have Sirius radio, and I love it. Even though I live in the Boston
area, which has lots of great stations, I rarely listen to conventional radio. The variety and programming quality on Sirius is much better, and you don't get the commercials. Didn't know the NPR channels didn't include some of the popular shows. I got Sirius because it had NPR, but it's the Better Half who is the real NPR fan. Nobody tell her! cowling on the top front of the car. The received hooked right into my existing SONY radio. Had it installed a few months ago for free. I like the selection of talk radio and the variety of music. I live waay in the country - in the finger lakes of upstate New York. There is almost NO radio up here. The NPR signal comes and goes with the terrain. I commute between 1 and 2 hours each day and the XM signal is always right there - no dropoffs. I took the EVC to Canada in September. The XM signal was strong at 4 hours north of Toronto! I can't imagine life without XM radio. Steve '99 EVC (back from Germany) ----- Original Message -----
