Changing differential gear oil

Does anyone know how to check and add/replace the gear oil in the final drive. Bentley has a nice picture of two hex nut but I can find them because the auto transmission housing blocks the view and one hex nut seem to have a plastic holder which I cannot see but can fell it with my finger...I bought a liter of 90 weight oil from VW. I have a 2002 EVC.

Thanks

Bernard

I worked on a Jetta and installed a golf trans.
To put the oil in, I removed the speedo-sender.
?To drain the oil, you may have to remove a side-cover.

To check diff oil level in my 99, the plug is behind (above) the pendulum mount.? Easiest to remove the pendulum mount to check and add, but it can be done by not removing it if you have enough extensions to wrench from behind the subframe.? I have not seen a way to drain the differential?? Someone please chime in if you know the secret, other than suction out and replace.? I'd like to drain mine.

I have 2001 EVC and changed the gear oil in final drive when had my transmission pulled out. I think it might be difficult to get to fill/drain plugs when transmission is in. Try to look around transmission pendulum support arm that holds transmission from the bottom and see if you can get to these plugs.

I gave it a try on my 1997 EVC today, at about 130,000 miles, since I was under there for some other reasons. The level was fine and the fluid didn't really look too bad. I managed to suck out and replace only about .5 liter. I wrote it up in the wiki.?

Thanks for the pics and write up.
