Anyone replaced the steering shaft/column upper bushing beneath the steering wheel switch gear?

I have substantial slop/play in my steering column/steering shaft within the steering column. Not an uncommon issue; ?cause is that the nylon bushing just underneath the directional indicator and wiper controls disintegrates over time. I have the new bushing, but the perishable thrust washer that maintains pressure on the spring above the bushing is no longer available. I have tried driving to screwdrivers between the spring and that thrust washer and lifting/prying,… A small amount of movement, but mostly just compressing the spring. I have tried using adjustable pump pliers, hoping that I could get a grip on it and then while twisting back-and-forth, I could walk the thrust washer back up to steering column, but no go. I’m not getting a good enough grip on the thrust washer.?
?
1-Anyone know of a source anywhere on planet Earth for this thrust washer.
2-Anyone discovered how to get that thrust washer off without destroying it so the nylon bushing under the spring can be replaced and then reuse that thrust washer? ?
3-Anyone know if the steering column can be removed from the vehicle and then perhaps , remove the shaft from the bushing by removing the joint at the bottom of the steering shaft? ?

One more thing you might try is heating the thrust washer with a torch. Be careful not to overdo it and destroy the heat treatment.
