Open hatch from inside

janet muccino

Okay I've seen a few things about opening the rear hatch from the inside. I have a 2001 Weekender does anybody know how to do this?
Thx

The EVC (Winnebago Camper conversion) has this capability, but not the Weekender.
Winnebago basically added a hole in the trim panel on the rear door to allow access to a tab of the unlock mechanism to give an emergency egress.
I think it's a requirement for an RV conversion.

Ok, thx maybe a can cut a hole in the trim and find the release. ?

Mine has a hole to get at this liftgate release. It is below the rear board that supports the sleeping area and is a real PITA to get to? - esp if the rear deck is loaded with stuff. Not ideal in a real emergency!

When i was fixing my rear latch issue lately I noticed there is a spare unused rod connection on the upper side of the rear latch mechanism (see attached pic) that could be used to open the liftgate.

Has anyone ever added a rod + push/pull knob to the liftgate (like the front doors), from the latch mechanism going up to the lower window lip on the rear liftgate? Seems easy but likely has some gotchas...

Sounds like a great alternate location….. but that wiper motor may be a problem if it went straight up….

And agree is the bed is made up or stuff stacked at the back it is hard to get your finger in there.

I always thought there was a lever for that purpose and mine was just missing?

I don't have a pic, but if I remember correctly the wiper motor is way off to-the right side (passenger of the liftgate. My bad - should have taken a pic. The wiper linkage is still in the middle tho.But a shaft bend to the left might do it...

If you want measurements I can do that quickly. Hopefully all vans are the same!

Measurements would be helpful thx

Janet - not sure you would see my post with measurements, because I added "measurements" to the title. So just letting you know.
