Motor/Tranny Mount

I had put up with vibration at idle in my '95 EVC with automatic
transmission for 55000 miles. The rear motor/tranny mount appeared to
be OK, but based on what I've read in this forum, I decided to
replace it, and did so yesterday. When I had the old mount out I
could see that the rubber in the old mount was loose in its housing
and would move about 3/8 inch, so it was defective. The old mount had
a steel housing while the new one had an aluminum one.
The removal and installation were not easy. Fortunately I have access
to a shop with a lift and impact wrench. I removed the pan and
supported the motor/tranny with a transmission jack. I also used a
small screw jack between the engine and the cross member to keep the
engine from moving aft and to assist in lining up the bolt holes on
the new mount. The hardest part was getting the old mount out after
removing all the bolts. I finally got the additional 1/8" clearance I
needed by removing the check plug for the final drive. The small
screw jack worked like a charm for aligning the bolt holes. I don't
think I could have completed the job without it.
So, if your 5 cylinder Eurovan with automatic transmission vibrates
at idle, sometimes bad enough that you shift into neutral until
you're ready to go, replacing the motor mount worked for me!
