Dealer honored FUEL LINE recall :-) LONGISH>>>>>>

Team Degenerate Motorsports

Hi gang-

Sorry for a belated post on my fuel line repair. I learned of the
recall here on the list and followed the link to NHTSA back on 3/28. At
that point I printed out the page listing all 11,400? '93 EV's being
recalled.

I had been paranoid about the fuel leak ( mine had often smelled but no
sign of moisture - I was imagining it ) and tired of carrying the
extinguisher so I went to VW dealer that week and showed them the
printout. OF course they had no info. Ran my VIN and still no recall.
They said wait for VWOA to notify and then hope it is not a situation
where it will take them 2 months to get the parts. That was not what I
wanted to hear but I let it go.

On 4/9 we had an overnight cold snap and upon return from a morning
errand I was no longer imagining that fuel smell - it was here. About a
square foot of area under the hood was moist.

4/10 - Drive EV to dealer - show them the recall printout again. ( this
was the time it was no longer online to print out BUT I HAD IT :-)
They say the same basically that I had to wait.. I said BS thats not
gonna happen. I keep my calm - sorta and tell them I am planning to
drive my family in the EV on two longish trips in the next two weeks....
one is 7 hours RT, the other from CT to NC for a week 1400 miles+ ....
this "solution" is not acceptable and I am leaving the van because it's
not safe to drive!!! I tell them I want the local VWOA rep's phone # (
she's very cool) who authorizes warrantee repairs. They say maybe the
service dept. MGR. can make a call to VW that AM. I leave the van to
have auto tranny fluid/filter changed, coolant flushed, oil changed and
rear engine/tranny mount replaced.

4/11 - Service rep calls - they have been authorized to replace fuel
connections - nothing more he says. He has no clue what he is talking
about because he cannot describe the area or connections. I figure sure
OK.....

4/13 - pick up EV. Service rep still has his head up his a$$ ;-) I
look and it appears the lines are replaced clear to the tank!!!!! Nice
new lines! Hooray!

Heres what it had on invoice:

Bill,
Thanks for the information on the fuel line. I too am still waiting for my
recall letter but I think it has been too long. I am considering taking a
firmer approach as you have done.

Thanks for the information on the fuel line. I too am still waiting for
my
recall letter but I think it has been too long. I am considering taking a
firmer approach as you have done.
I had a very positive experience with the VW hotline. I recently received a
letter from VW about two recalls that had never been performed on my
EV--power window actuator and steering bolt. I took my EV to the dealer and
mentioned the fuel line recall. He was of no help, even after I showed him
the printout. He also claimed he could not get the parts for any of the
recalls. So I called VW and talked to Deborah Robinson. I mentioned the
three recalls and she promised she would send the items to my dealer. There
was no discussion about the fuel line recall, she simply told me that the
dealer would get them soon. That was Friday. If the dealer actually calls me
in the near future and changes the fuel lines, I will believe it. Thus far I
am skeptical. However, I was ready to fight with VW, but there was no need.
Hope we all get the work done soon.
