tire rotation- x or rf to rb ??
I'm about to do a first time rotation of the Agilis 51s. Has any long term
users of these tires had better wear with the x type of rotation or the same side, front to back rotation? I was using a set of Goodyear passenger tires and never rotated them in the 30,000 miles they were on but Michelins are great tires so far and I would like to get the best wear from them. BTW I have a 93 GL non camper. Thanks Spencer |

Steel belted radials should never be rotated in an X--pattern as that would reverse their direction of rotation when driving and could cause internal damage to the tires according to the tire mfrs. Most tire mfrs. recommend rotating steel belted radial tires (front to back) at 5,000 mile intervals. Sheldon '97 EVC ----- Original Message -----

Spencer,
I have had the Agilis for about 44,000 miles and have rotated them at least every 5000 miles, front to back. Everything seems fine. I did not rotate the Goodyears very often (about every 45,000 miles) plus I replaced one of them and VW another (Ruined one with the lift, so they said). Replaced the Goodyears with Michelins at 96,000 miles. I don't think you will find anyone with miles enough to have done it both front and back and criss-cross. The 93 EV owners manual does say that tires should normally be
rotated front to rear but it also says that "X" rotation is OK to correct improper wear such as feather edging. Most, if not all tire mfgs now have no restriction on X rotation. This is sort of an urban legend with tires made today. |
