2002 Speedo and cruise control not working

Malcolm Stebbins #163652 2002 EuroVan Winnebago camper,? 180,000 miles My local mechanic has spent 5 hours trying to trace why the speedometer quit and the cruise control quit. They quit about the same time. All of the modules seem to check out okay, he has traced the wires, all seems to be okay. If anyone has a suggestion, I, and my mechanic are all ears thanks. Justin Soares All Messages By This Member #163653 Edited The first thing I would check is the VSS. The vehicle speed sensor, hopefully that’s the first thing your mechanic checked too as it is critical for the function of both of these things. By plugging in the VCDS and driving you can see if the ecu is getting the speed signal from it. That’ll be the easiest way to test. It probably take five minutes. The physical location of it is a little bit onerous to get to, but it’s on top of the transmission by the right side, output, shaft, basically exactly in the middle and behind the engine. ?Easy access on the lift with the belly pan off but tough in the driveway on your back ;-) -- Justin 2000 EVW 1.9TDI Syncro 5-spd 490k mi :-)
