Re: More Norcold woes...
YES!! John, this was the confirmation I was hoping for! I will be
doing that slosh/burp routine this weekend. Plus, this will be my first time to remove a Norcold, so I am looking forward to seeing first-hand what all the hoopla is about! ;) I'll take a bunch of photos. I've also kept a text file of many of the previous Norcold posts over the last five years, so I have a long history lesson to wade through, read, and will get wise before I dig in Saturday. Thanks, Garrett John wrote: Garrett, about. The exact shipping charge $262.35 on my $373.59 order for a total of $635.93. Yes that's very ODD!!

I just tried placing a order for both mufflers, 2 clamps, 3 "O" rings and 3 sensors. Shipping was like $269 alone. I don't remember the exact figure that brought my $373 order to way over $600. Needless to say I didn't "checkout".

Bob,
I have made calls and sent emails to recyclers in Texas, Washington, California, Alaabama and NY. So far no luck. A mechanic left it off and then the car went into storage for the winter. Of course noone will take responsibility for leaving it off. I never looked underneath. Now I am pondering a retrofit but don't know what material to construct it out of. --- In ev_update@..., Sea2river@... wrote: ncid=aolaut00050000000007)

Odd smell
adammentzell
I have a transmission service as well as full brakes done about a week ago on my 97 EVC.
Since then the inside of the car has a strong oily smell which seems to be going away very slowly. With the warnings about the ammonia leaking from the Norcold fridges I am starting to worry that it is the fridge. Any opinions here? What does the fridge leak smell like? On an unrelated note. Last night I hit a bump and lost a section of exhaust system. The pipe coming out of the middle muffler broke off. The middle muffler seems in fair shape. Some rust. The rest of the exhaust system looks great. How much should I expect to pay for a middle muffler? Any ideas? I saw one on line at eurosports.com for 150 bucks plus a whopping 134 bucks for shipping. Just want to be sure I am not gonna get fleeced when I take it in tomorrow. Thanks in advance. Great to have this group as a resource! Adam Mentzell |

Hello Group, Lovely, my Norcold in my 2002 EVC just stopped working... will begin troubleshooting this coming weekend. The previous owners were meticulous with the EVC and especially with the Norcold refrigerator. I was reminded that this is a $3,000 refrigerator! They actually spent THAT MUCH MONEY over the previous five years!!! Every time they had a glitch, it went to the Winnebago folks... and each time it was another $600. Anyway... the weird and very troubling symptom is that the propane will light just fine and the green light will remain STRONG and happy. But, there is no cooling. Nothing. Ditto on shore power and on battery... no cooling at all. It used to ice up on the aluminum cooling fins. It was working GREAT!! This is a rather vexing symptom because I am thinking that this means a possible ammonia leak. Major BUMMER!! On the other hand, I am HOPING BEYOND HOPE that doing the well documented "burping procedure" (see archives) might just fix the problem. Will probably give that a try first. Any suggestions on troubleshooting this coming weekend? What is the easiest and quickest way to see if the ammonia is all gone? Is there any other explanation for having a good flame (on LP), but no cooling happening? One other question... I notice that there is a cooling fan in operation on my 2002 EVC when the refrigerator is cooling... but, my 1999 EVC, the refrigerator is totally silent all the time. Replacing screens on slider windows
cactuspaws
Looking for suggestions on best place to buy replacement screens for a
2002 EV Weekender. They were pretty flimsy to begin with and the dogs and harsh sunshine have them looking pretty ragged now. Is it possible to just replace the screen fabric which appears to be glued on, or does the whole frame have to be replaced, too? Had the windows tinted today and thought it might be a good time to do the screens. Karen |
Re: More Norcold woes...

Garrett,
That sucks! Are you sure it was not left running on propane at an angle? Over 5 degrees of slope can coke the boiler. Anhydrous ammonia is extremely hazardous. When released into the air, it immediately reacts with water vapor to form aqueous ammonia, like the cleaning solution. It will form that in your lungs instantly, and kill you. So, do you detect any ammonia smell inside the van? You wouldn't have been in it when it blew, or you wouldn't be here to write this email! It's entirely possible that it did escape, and you'll have to find some one that can deal with that. Here is one: www.rvmobile.com <> Check out the "how it works" section. If you can understand that, you are a better man than I. Stuart _____ From: ev_update@... [mailto:ev_update@...] On Behalf Of Garrett Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 2:44 PM To: ev_update@... Need plastic trim piece- sliding window.
Jonathan Levin
Greetings.
I am missing a piece of plastic trim from the side door sliding window. This is a piece that is about a foot long and has a channel that went over the edge of the window. I think it is about 3/8 inch wide.. Mine disappeared, although I had a chance to save since I knew it was kind of loose and never got around to glueing it on. DOH!!! Anyone on the list have one laying around they might want to part with? I don't think that this piece actually does anything, but I want my van to be whole again. My van is a 2001 EV MV WK. Thanks.
