Hi John, sorry I didn't realize Compact was different from Standard. With tapered rollers there will be a preload nut (C00.3-07 in schematic). After you take it out, the spindle will likely need to be pressed out from the left hand side bearing. Resist the urge to use a hammer - of any kind :)

Threaded rod passed through the spindle, acting on the on headstock housing via wooden cribbing can be used

Good news is that 32 series bearings are available and cheap-ish, even in the P5 tolerance. Killing these bearings while trying to free them up in situ would not be a tragedy as on the Standard, but I'd still take it apart and clean it that way

I was wondering the same thing, this is the first group email that I’ve received in a number of days, especially since this group is usually so active.?
