optical lens

Hi group, There isn't much information available on laser technology
for the hobbiest. Although I'm an electronics tech, lasers aren't
part of my forte. I am stuck on finding a source of optical lenses
for experiments. Any suggestions for finding something like a 30-mm
diameter, 55-mm focal length plano convex lens? With technicians pay
cost is important. ttyl Jim

You could try Messrs Griffin and George, school laboratory suppliers,
whose Catalogue is on line (if you have enough memory to cope with it!)

Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to
????????? If your willing to take a bit of a risk not getting EXACTLY what you
want, I'd sugest old over head projectors or slide projectors. There are
plenty of source for older second hand lens assemblies for cameras that you
could probably look into. Also, older laserprinters or photocopiers might be
helpfull. I also do a bit of photography as a hobby, and have found some
interesting lens, mirror and optical components from these sources. These are
actually of quite good quality it seems........????????? Also,??? If your after
specific information cheaply about lasers and optics, there are I'm sure some
GREAT texts in the physics section of the local library.........

Thanks Keith and Peter for your input on this. Keith, do you have a
web address for 'Messrs Griffin and George' as a yahoo and lycos
search became very convoluted. Peter, I took your advice and went to
the Boeing surplus near my home. I was able to find several of the
old TV cameras used for survelience for $5.00US each. I am anxious
to strip the one I bought to see if it will do the job. The case is
perfect for the laser simulator I intend to build. If the lens works
then we are off to a great start. ttyl, Jim

whoawhoawhoa... that's exactly what I'm looking for.
there's a Lockheed Martin near me, do you think there'd be a surplus store?
how do you find something like that?
