Psalms 97:12 April 27, 2025 Today's Scripture Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. Psalm 97:12 Because of the work that He completed at Calvary, God has given Jesus Christ a name above every other name (Philippians 2:9). Faith in that name makes us strong (Acts 3:16). His name justifies us (1 Corinthians 6:11). The name of Jesus brings life (John 20:31). In the name of Jesus, signs and wonders are accomplished (Acts 4:30). Miracles occur! In the name of Jesus, demons are cast out (Acts 16:18). They must flee! In Jerusalem, after the Day of Pentecost, the disciples preached the word with boldness. Thousands were saved and baptized. The disciples healed the sick. They cast out demons. And they did it all in the name of Jesus. The religious rulers were so disturbed by their behavior that they arrested them, beat them, and commanded that the disciples no longer speak or teach in the name of Jesus. They departed from the council, rejoicing that they were worthy to suffer shame for His name, and they did not cease to teach in His name (Acts 5:41-42). The name of Jesus Christ has dominion today! When we speak that name, all of heaven stands behind it. When we speak that name in prayer, all of the power and authority of God come to our aid. Speak it out loud and often! In the name of Jesus, leave my family alone because they belong to the King of kings. In the name of Jesus, leave my marriage alone because what God has brought together, let no man separate. In the name of Jesus, leave my body alone because by His stripes, I am healed. Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” How would your life be revolutionized if you brought every action and every word that you speak under the name of Jesus? How would it look different? Sound different? Let’s see how our homes, workplaces, and cities change when we declare the banner of Jesus over them. It’s a comfort and confession, a hope and a healing, a bandage and a battle cry. Speak the name! Blessing Precious Jesus, I pause as I say Your name. I breathe it in, and I focus on all that You have done and all that You are to me. Every thought that I think, every word that I speak, every action that I perform, I ask that I do all in Your name and for Your glory. I pray this prayer In Your name…amen. He Is Not Here—He Has Risen! Matthew 28:6 (NASB?) “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.” One year, I was asked to be on a television program in the days leading up to Easter. It wasn’t a Christian station or program, but I was glad to participate and talk about Easter. When the production team called, they said, “We want to do a short segment on Easter, just three or four minutes.” “Okay,” I said. Then they said, “This isn’t a religious program.” I replied, “Yes, I know, but Easter is about Jesus of Nazareth. He died on a Roman cross, and God raised Him to life again. That’s the story of Easter. That’s why we celebrate.” They said, “Well, we’ll have to talk to the program manager and call you back.” Unsurprisingly, I never heard from them again. I’m not opposed to the secular things that are a part of Easter. Bunnies, egg hunts, and candy just give me an opening to talk about Jesus. But the real story is, “He is not here. He has risen!” That is the wonderful truth about Easter that our friends and neighbors desperately need to hear. THINK ABOUT IT Without the resurrection of Jesus from death, His birth and sacrifice on the cross would not be sufficient to offer us eternal redemption. Let’s celebrate Jesus’ resurrection! PRAYER Heavenly Father, thank You for Your great love in sending Your Son, Jesus, who offered Himself so I might be redeemed and enjoy eternal life with You. Jesus is alive! I rejoice that the same Spirit that brought Jesus out of the tomb is alive within me today. In His name, amen. He Changes Everything John 3:16 (NIV?) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. A brief glance at the headlines on any given day will show that much of the world’s conflict is because of religious differences. While followers of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity agree there is a God, Jesus is the One who makes the unique difference. He declared, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). You see, Jesus makes God personal. He brings a sense of moral responsibility because He surrendered His life for the sin of mankind. Through His excruciating death and miraculous resurrection, He makes His own righteousness and authority available to us. We can never afford to step away from Him and His finished work on the cross. So, it is true—the greatest gift God will ever give you and me is Jesus. He changes everything. THINK ABOUT IT God gave us the gift of eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus. He died in our place so God could forgive us our sins and so we might live forever in God’s presence. PRAYER Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son. Open my eyes to see Jesus, not just as a character in my Bible, but as the Living One who watches over my life. Help me to walk closer to Him every day and turn to Him when I face challenges and fears. Thank You for the eternal life I have through Him. It’s in the redeeming name of Jesus that I pray, amen.
