Igniting Young Minds: A Teenager's Electric Porsche Dream When most 16-year-olds are scrolling through social media or hanging out with friends, Frances Farnam is in the garage, knee-deep in wires and tools, working to convert a classic 1976 Porsche 914 into an electric vehicle. But this isn¡¯t just about creating a cool first car¡ªit¡¯s about sparking inspiration. Through her YouTube channel and Instagram, Frances, better known as Tinkergineering, is on a mission to show young people that they too can take charge of their future, one bolt at a time. Frances¡¯s story began at just 11 years old, picking grapefruit in her backyard to save up for her first car. But unlike most pre-teens dreaming of a sleek ride, Frances wanted more than just a vehicle. She envisioned a project that would teach her invaluable skills, break stereotypes, and ultimately inspire others to pursue their passions fearlessly. That dream led her to a Porsche 914¡ªan iconic car that matched her vision of classic cool while also being the perfect candidate for an electric makeover. Her quest to electrify the 914 quickly grew into something much larger than she ever anticipated, turning her into an ambassador for the electric vehicle (EV) movement and a role model for young makers everywhere. Special Program for Low Income Homeowners - Solar Systems with Battery Storage
Hello, This is a great opportunity for families and retired people with a low income who have high PG&E bills, or even low to moderate bills. This program is for the underserved community that in the past hasn¡¯t been able to qualify for the federal tax credit due to low federal tax income. Last year we had a guest speaker Brock Glasmann from ES Solar give our EAASV group a presentation on Solar Systems with battery storage as a way to greatly reduce your PG&E bill and protect your home from utility company power outages. Those systems were available for purchase or via a monthly purchase power agreement. Now for a very limited time, low income homeowners can get a system with 13 (or more) solar panels along with a Tesla 3 Power Wall system installed (at no cost to the homeowner) through a California Grant program. The name of this program is: ¡°Residential Solar and Storage Equity¡±. (This is a SGIP category you won¡¯t find online yet). Intended to help CA¡¯s underserved market demographic gain access to solar and batteries which they likely could not afford to purchase. ES Solar will provide a fully subsidized solar and battery system at NO EXPENSE to these customers. Applicants must simply qualify for the program, make less than certain incomes, have a good home for solar and batteries, and agree to certain program responsibilities. Brock just contacted me about the unique program which makes this type of system available to low income homeowners. The entire cost being is paid for by the State of California via a subsidized rebate for solar and battery systems that can be transferred over to ES Solar to install. The agreement would read: ¡°Amount due from homeowner: $0¡±. Each qualified grant will pay for a minimum of thirteen 385 watt solar panels and 1 Tesla 3 powerwall. ES Solar will guarantee to claim the grant for the homeowner before installation. If for whatever reason the grant is not 100% secured before installation, the project will be canceled with no penalty. This is not ¡°Free solar¡± - this is a fully subsidized rebate from the state but still requires assistance and items needed to ensure the rebate. See checklist below: There are restrictions that apply and the program has not been officially announced online yet. This email is an announcement for qualified applicants to get pre-approved before the official announcement. Pre-approval increases their chances of actually receiving a grant, since the number of grants for each area is strictly limited. The grants will be awarded in the April - May 2025 time frame. ES Solar can provide the full program rules written by project administrators at the CPUC. This document is not currently available online, however I can email a copy to you upon request. There will be a website with this information in a couple of months. The issue is, that once the website opens, the rebates will be gone within a week. ES Solar is dedicated to do 500 rebates and will have a full team submitting rebates that week for anyone that meets the required qualifications before the submittal week. They will do their best to lock in the rebate - there is no penalty to cancel the install if the program reaches the limit before the rebate is awarded. ES Solar will also be doing a load justification form for PGE and SMUD and other utilities where it is possible to get more than 13 panels and a larger rebate. The minimum is 13 panels and 1 Tesla battery, but some people may qualify for a bigger system depending on usage and a load justification form. Here is a short list of the most important restrictions. 1. Applicants must be single family homeowners - this program is not available for renters. 2. Applicants must be considered low income - the income limit depends on the size of the family and county they live in. (For example in Santa Clara County: under $100K for one person and under $145K for a 4 person family which is approximately 80% or less than the median income of the county you reside in). 3. The home must have a roof that is adequate for solar, there cannot be shading over the roof, the s

Plug, Baby, Plug!

At the recent AI Action Summit in Paris, this news bite really made me smile: French President Emmanuel Macron closed out the first day of the summit touting the wide availability of nuclear and clean energy in France, making it ideal for AI infrastructure. "Plug, baby, plug," he said ¡ª his twist on President Trump's "Drill, baby, drill." I was thinking that the EAASV (or whatever name is now preferred) might consider adopting Plug, Baby, Plug as a new slogan! [GGEVA] Trump ends 'electric vehicle mandate' in Day 1 executive order

A GGEVA member had posted an article about Trumps first day executive orders. I wrote the following response. These POLITICAL acts affect members of this group and the overall mission of electric vehicle and clean energy technology adoption. + David Herron ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: David Herron via groups.io <david@...> Date: Wed, Jan 22, 2025 at 9:39 AM Subject: Re: [GGEVA] Trump ends 'electric vehicle mandate' in Day 1 executive order To: <[email protected]> I went over the executive orders Trump signed the first day, and noticed these two as applying to "Energy" and "Environment" https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/unleashing-american-energy/ https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/declaring-a-national-energy-emergency/ First - he declared a National Energy Emergency on false premises Second - I haven't fully examined it, but it seems that under the pretext of an Emergency that they want to suspend clean air and clean water laws and other environmental protections and climate change measures Third - There is an explicit call to suspend the right some states have to set their own clean air requirements The last is a direct assault on CARB. California declared a right to set its own clean air standards before the EPA even existed. The rise of electric vehicles is due in part to CARBs existence. In September 2019, the Trump administration had launched an attack on CARBs existence.
