Banquet Keynote Speaker: Mark Seeger, Founder of Glydways Mark Seeger founded Glydways to activate his vision: a form of public transit that can move more people than rail, using less than half of the space, which costs 90% less to build and operate while providing a private and on-demand ride every time. Most crucially, this solution can be delivered with commodity technology leveraging existing supply chains. Born in the Netherlands, Mark has spent equal parts of his life in Holland, Singapore, and the United States, giving him insight and experience into regional opportunities and challenges that exist to dramatically change how we as a society move. Prior to founding Glydways, Mark had early careers at NASA and Apple; founded the biodegradable plastics company GreenIdea in Singapore (sold); the electric motorcycle company Mission Motorcycles and Mission Marine; as well built initiatives that focused on low-cost, high-efficiency air-conditioning for third-world countries with his company GeoCool (sold). Mark holds an MBA and MS in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and resides in Brisbane, CA. Sponsorship Opportunities Available This year is the 35th Anniversary of The Silicon Valley Engineering Banquet and Hall of Fame Ceremony. This is a great opportunity to expose your organization or company to Silicon Valley's eminent engineers and technologists, sponsor scholarships and help SVEC's mission. Ple

[GGEVA] Trump ends 'electric vehicle mandate' in Day 1 executive order

A GGEVA member had posted an article about Trumps first day executive orders. I wrote the following response. These POLITICAL acts affect members of this group and the overall mission of electric vehicle and clean energy technology adoption. + David Herron ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: David Herron via groups.io <david@...> Date: Wed, Jan 22, 2025 at 9:39 AM Subject: Re: [GGEVA] Trump ends 'electric vehicle mandate' in Day 1 executive order To: <[email protected]> I went over the executive orders Trump signed the first day, and noticed these two as applying to "Energy" and "Environment" https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/unleashing-american-energy/ https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/declaring-a-national-energy-emergency/ First - he declared a National Energy Emergency on false premises Second - I haven't fully examined it, but it seems that under the pretext of an Emergency that they want to suspend clean air and clean water laws and other environmental protections and climate change measures Third - There is an explicit call to suspend the right some states have to set their own clean air requirements The last is a direct assault on CARB. California declared a right to set its own clean air standards before the EPA even existed. The rise of electric vehicles is due in part to CARBs existence. In September 2019, the Trump administration had launched an attack on CARBs existence. The rules CARB develops are used by ?19? other states. + David Herron On Wed, Jan 22, 2025 at 3:40 AM Bruce Wolfe N6BMW via groups.io <bruce@...> wrote: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2025/01/20/trump-executive-order-day-1-electric-vehicle/77835683007/

EAASV Election of Officers for 2025 & volunteer request
Hello and Happy New Year. It is time to elect our President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for 2025. All of our current officers are willing to serve again this year. We do not have term limits, although if any of our paid EVA members wish to run for one of these positions, you are welcome to do so. Feel free to reply to this email announcing your name and what position you are interested in along with a paragraph telling us a bit about yourself and why members should vote for you. On the ballot, they can put your name as a write-in candidate. We have online voting so you can go to the following link and cast your ballot. The deadline for voting is 11:59 PM January 17th. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf9DCdK8TrY9BZgV2vI15e_JY01Txj2JL5Rlnp0tgrL4INw6g/viewform?usp=sf_link Also, we are looking for volunteers who just want to help us with chapter activities. We have not had many meetings lately and could use some help finding guest speakers on EV related topics. We can either meet in person at Maker Nexus in Sunnyvale or online via Zoom - or both). If you can help us find guest speakers, please send an email to me: Jerry.Pohorsky@... During the year, we participate in various EV car shows, ride and drive events and health fairs. EV dealers often provide cars that guests can test drive, however we also have our EAASV members display their personal EV as well. This allows for a larger variety of EVs at the event and gives guests an opportunity to talk to an experienced EV driver who is not trying to sell them a car. The vast majority of people who attend these events do not have an EV, however they are usually open-minded and you can answer their questions and concerns. If you are willing to display your EV or perhaps take passengers for a demo ride (they will not drive your car for insurance reasons), please send an email to: BenWhite@... Let Ben know the make, model and year of your EV and your email address and cell phone number. Thanks for your consideration, Jerry Pohorsky Electric Vehicle Association Current Silicon Valley Chapter President eaasv.org

Hi Jerry, I know that Tesla has exclusive level #3 chargers. Are there other makes that can use level #3 chargers. With adapters, can they use Tesla chargers? Are there other makes of Level #3 chargers that any make of vehicle can use? Are public chargers pay per use or do they require a subscription? Thank you & Happy Holidays, Lou

What EVs can use level #3 chargers?
Hi Jeff, I'm not sure I could pass the "safety inspection" without working seat belts on the "bucket seat". (Image from internet) Currently I charge at home or arrange to have a friendly plug at my destination. My objective is to have an EV I can travel in and not get arrested for a violation of anti homeless law by sleeping in my car while waiting for a charge. Thanks, Lou On 12/25/2024 2:31 PM, Jeff Chan wrote:
