Vespa Style electric scooter for sale on 6-1-2024

Howdy,

The other day, Kim Parnell posted an email about a large quantity of electric scooters being auctioned off in Berkeley and other cities.? I didn't see any response to his email and those scooters are relegated to bike lanes.

I am selling something much better for a fixed price - so there is no bidding involved and you know what you are getting. ??
There is a rare opportunity to see what I have for sale one day only - Saturday June 1, 2024.

Our EAASV treasurer is having a garage sale at the corner of Winchester Blvd. and Sunny Vista Drive starting at 8 AM. ??

What I have for sale is a Vespa style electric scooter that is street legal with a California license plate.

It has a ?2 horsepower (1500 Watt) motor and a 3000 Watt Kelly controller with regenerative braking.

It has very low mileage (under 300 miles) with new tires and a new 48 volt Lithium battery with a 5 Amp charger. ? Here is a link to the garage sale posting on Craigslist with a photo of the scooter and charger.? The price is $1250.

California sales of zero-emission vehicles buck negative forecasts

Howdy,

There has been a lot of "news" lately about the declining sales of EVs.
Apparently that is not the case in California where?ONE IN FOUR NEW CARS sold is an EV.
Also there are more EV charging stations in our state than there are gasoline nozzles.

Below is a link to the full story in the San Jose Mercury News.

Jerry

Does anyone know the story on SuperPedestrian #2 (appears to be a company)?

They seem to have Scooter assets being dumped from a number of cities.

Next question:
Any clever ideas for things that could be done with these scooters or parts like batteries, motors, etc.?

I have no idea on condition or quantity.
An Auction so price is in flux.
Unsure if they will get broken into lots.

I can never resist an auction firesale!

Re: 3 beeps and flashing blue lights

Most likely the stated diagnosis is correct, and replacing the connector would be the solution.? YES it would be advisable to remove power from the EVSE when installing the new plug .
If you want to replace the entire charger, we have had excellent results with Siemens .

I read some of the Nissan forum posts, and I went to a public Level 2 charger, and it worked fine. So, now I know that my charger is the problem.

A couple posts indicated that it's probably the PP pin in the charger. Is this something that I would be able to fix myself? Would I have to disconnect power from the charger? Any other suggestions?

Background on the Advanced Clean Cars Regulations

In 2022, CARB adopted the Advanced Clean Cars II regulations to establish the next phase of regulations beginning with the 2026 model year. Advanced Clean Cars II:

  • Increases the stringency of the smog-causing criteria pollutant standards, known as LEV IV.
  • Updates the zero-emission vehicle regulation to require 100% of new passenger vehicles to meet zero-emission standards by the 2035 model year.
  • Establishes a suite of assurance measures to ensure zero-emission vehicles can provide enduring emission reductions. ? ?

Staff are now considering amendments to the ACC II regulations for GHG, criteria air pollutants, and ZEVs. In the November 2023 workshop, staff presented their new proposals to address emerging ZEV-related issues, such as requirements to help improve interoperability between electric vehicles and charging equipment and data collection to inform a consumer-facing window sticker.

In 2008, CARB introduced the California Environmental Performance Label (EPL) in response to Assembly Bill 1229, which required vehicle window-stickers to include a smog index and global warming index. In California, vehicle manufacturers were required to affix the California EPL along with U.S.?EPA and Department of Transportation Fuel Economy Label (Fuel Economy Label). In 2012, the California EPL was incorporated into the Fuel Economy Label, which manufacturers can use in place of the California EPL to comply with California¡¯s label requirements. With more Californians looking towards purchasing ZEVs, CARB wants to ensure consumers have the information they are seeking. Staff are developing a proposal for an updated California EPL with improved ZEV metrics, which would accompany the current Fuel Economy Label.

EV school bus --> grid battery

  • ?EV school buses will begin to feed power stored in EV bus batteries back to the California grid in a deal with Oakland.
  • Across the U.S. there are an estimated 500,000 school buses which, if converted to EV like Oakland¡¯s school district, could become a significant source of energy for utility power grids.
  • The fact that the buses, the nation¡¯s largest mass transit system, are not used during peak evening energy demand hours makes the business case compelling, though the concept is still in very early days.

Re: Horrible charging experience in Half Moon Bay

Unreliable and scarce charging has been my constant complaint since 2009.? I live in NV where it is a long way between DCFC, and there is often only 1 unit at a given site. I always plan carefully and check status of the ones I plan to use when I start the trip as well as on the way, but I hold my breath that they still work when I arrive.? Some won't take credit cards, you must use their app - and of course your phone must have NFC to do that, which I learned the hard way years ago.? If that one unit at the site won't cooperate, the next one is often 50 or more miles away (more scarce north of I80). That is one thing Tesla did very well, and GM completely failed at.? It is fairly typical to have to call the company to get the DCFC started at at least one site on a trip, and too common for it not to work at all. The most reliable ones are Electrify America, and they have multiple units per site and good support too. Traveling from Reno to Death Valley on Rt 95 is an adventure, even more so to Berlin Ichthyosaur Park.? Our trips in CA are pure luxury in comparison. The only decision is which DCFC has the best restaurant or coffee place nearby - except for northern CA where they are more scarce.? We stopped to charge in Shasta City where there are two DCFC. In the same lot there are about a dozen Testa superchargers, and across the street at a hotel there are about a dozen more. And they wonder why people are reluctant to buy an EV, and buy a Tesla when they do.
